This week on ABC’s The Bachelorette, Jillian Harris and her remaining three bachelors, Kiptyn, Reid, and Ed are in Maui, where Jillian’s hoping it will become clear to her which guy she’s supposed to be with. This week’s drama surrounds a certain unfortunate bachelor who is not able to ‘perform’ on his overnight date with Jillian. Which one is it? Lay your bets,
Kiptyn has the first date with Jillian in Hawaii, and they ‘test trust’ on a rope course. Plenty of goofiness and laughter ensue, until a portion of the course called ‘leap of faith’. Kiptyn and Jillian each have to stand on top of a high pole and jump out to try and grab a trapeze bar. Jillian nearly pukes in her effort to meet the challenge! They relax with wine and strawberries afterward, and Jillian admits to the camera that Kiptyn is her fave at this point.
As they prepare to have a romantic dinner, Jillian still worries that Kiptyn might break her heart, but he confides to the camera that he’s falling in love. At the table, Jillian quizzes him further on his relationship patterns, i.e. being the dumper as opposed to the dumpee. Soon, the second overnight card arrives. This time, Jillian is good to go. They retire to a candlelit hotel room.
Reid arrives to meet Jillian in a field in Maui for their date. The outstanding issue she needs to address with Reid is whether or not he’s ready for a commitment. They head up in a helicopter to see the sights – the pilot is an ordained minister and throws a scare into uptight Reid by offering to marry them right there! They land at a resort for a picnic, where Reid admits he does feel rushed by this process, and he is still bothered by the idea of her being with the other guys.
At night, they have dinner at the beach. Jillian says she is most comfortable with Reid, but needs him to tell her how he feels – he just keeps saying he ‘likes’ her. She point blank asks him if he’d move to Vancouver. Reid grins a panicky grin and says she’s really putting the pressure on! He isn’t able to answer her questions adequately, but the overnight card comes and they agree to take the offer. In the hotel suite, Reid still isn’t able to say the ‘L’ word, but they do share an intimate bubble bath!
Ed and Jillian meet up and head out for a boat ride on a catamaran. No sooner have they pushed off from the dock, than the make out session begins. Jillian asks for a weird fact about Ed – he admits that his family nicknamed him ‘Richie’! They enjoy a playful swim, after which Ed surprises Jillian by telling her that he has flown his parents in to meet her! Jillian acts positively giddy at this news!
Ed takes Jillian to meet his parents at their hotel room, where Jillian hugs them and chats them up, guzzling wine all the while. She heads outside for a talk with Judy, Ed’s mom, and Ed’s father grills him inside – what the hell is he doing risking his job?! Ed tells his dad that he would get engaged to Jillian if she were to choose him – that mollifies his father. Meanwhile, Judy tells Jillian that she believes Ed is ready for marriage. Ed’s dad takes a turn with Jillian, and bluntly tells Jillian that he wants to know a lot about her. Jillian turns it on, and dad ends up in tears and wishing them the best of luck! Ed, in lime green short-shorts, takes Jillian down to the sand, where they receive, and accept, the overnight card.
Looking forward to a night full of romance, Jillian meets Ed in the fantasy suite. They have amazing chemistry, and Ed is prepared to tell her that he has fallen in love with her. As they cuddle, Jillian expresses concern that she would play second fiddle to his career. Ed wants her to be the reason for him to come home from work. As Jillian slips into something more comfortable and cracks open a bottle of massage oil, everything seems perfectly aligned for a hot night – except that Ed isn’t able to ‘show’ Jillian how much he has fallen in love with her. Disappointment and excuses ensue.
The next day before the rose ceremony, Jillian rehashes her three dates with Chris Harrison and then listens to her private video messages from each of the bachelors. Kiptyn’s message says it has been an amazing ride, and as they come to the end, it feels like it could be the beginning – he wants to light the world on fire! Reid’s message tells Jillian that their night in the fantasy suite was one of the best of his life. He addresses the issue of not being open with his feelings, but says it’s because they’ve grown so quickly that it’s scary – he urges her to keep her ‘honey bear’ around longer! Ed’s message lets Jillian know that he is ready to take their relationship to the next level and he would like to propose to her. He ends by saying, “I love you.”
When the rose ceremony begins, Jillian generates some ticked off looks by telling the guys that she is unexpectedly falling in love with all three of them! She then asks Ed to speak with her alone for a moment. She expresses her confusion due to what happened – or rather didn’t happen – in the fantasy suite. Ed blames it on too many external things going on, and swears to her that she doesn’t need to worry about anything. They return to the rose ceremony hand-in-hand. Jillian then takes a deep breath and offers roses to Kiptyn and Ed. Reid, aka, Honey Bear, is headed home on The Bachelorette.
Jillian tells the remaining two bachelors that they will head away from Maui to the big island of Hawaii for next week’s episode. Also, the most memorable men return!
