American Idol: Paula Abdul Has Quit The Show

After months of speculation whether or not Paula Abdul would be returning to judge American Idol this year, we finally have an answer. Paula resolved the confusion earlier this week by stating that she will not be back this season. Wait, what? But wasn’t this just some kind of cruel publicity stunt? How will Simon Cowell be able to function without Paula to constantlyharass? Better yet, how will we be able to function without Paula’s off the wallcomments? Keep reading for all the details…
Paula twittered earlier this week, “With sadness in my heart, I’ve decided not to return to Idol. I’ll miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all being a part of a show that I helped from day one become an international phenomenon…. What I want to say most, is how much I appreciate the undying support and enormous love that you have showered upon me,” she added. “I do, without any doubt, have the BEST fans in the entire world and I love you all.”
According to Usmagazine.com,aFOXrepreleasedthe following statement on Tuesday:”Paula Abdul has been an important part of the American Idol family over the last eight seasons and we are saddened that she has decided not to return to the show. While Paula will not be continuing with us, she’s a tremendous talent and we wish her the best.”
And we’re not the only ones who are taken aback. “I am shocked and saddened about Paula,” said host Ryan Seacrest via Twitter.
It was reported by the New York Times that Paula was asking for quite a raise, somewhere about 30%, which would earn her approximately $20 million over the course of a couple years. Considering Ryan signed a 3-year contract for $45 million and Simon is said to be making anywhere from $100-145 million, it wasn’t completely off-base.
Paula has said that she felt unappreciated and mistreated by FOX recently. She also felt that by adding Kara DioGuardi it was a way of replacing her in the event didn’t come to an agreement.
