Tonight on the finale of Top Chef Masters, the chefs will travel to The Getty Villa, where they will be given their final challenge.Hubert Keller, RickBayliss, and Michael Chiarellowill be asked to create the “meal of their lifetime,” a series of dishes inspired by their careersas chefs. Keep reading to find out which chef will win $100,000 for their charity!
Among the series of dishes the chefs must create, the first is based on their very first food memory. The second will be based on the experience that made them decide to be a chef, and the third is the opening of their first restaurant. Their final dish is to represent where they will be headed. The five winners of Top Chef and the judges will be serving as critics for their dinners.
The chefs sit down for lunch and reminisce on what sort of meals they are going to create. Rick decides for his first food memory he will do barbecued smoked quail with watermelon salad. Michael is making polenta with rabbit and wild mushrooms, and Hubert is creating a salmon souffle with flan. When they get back to the kitchen, the chefs work tirelessly to prepare their four course meal.
The chefs realize this will be the closest competition yet and they all have an equal chance of winning. Each of them is justrelying on the fact thatsomeone else will mess up. Just as they start to put their dishes together, they receive video messages from their co-workers back home. As soon as the video is over, they walk through the door to assist them with their meals.
Rick is preparing suckling pig with sunchoke puree and crispy pig’s feetfor this restaurant opening memory. Um, gross. All the chefs get a little feisty when they see Hubert pull out some truffles. I believe Michael said, “game on.” Please don’t try to understand why truffles are such a big deal. Hubert is creating a Colorado lamb chop wrapped in vegetable mouseline for his restaurant opening memory. As for wherehe is heading as a chef, Rick is making an arros a la tumbada with seafood. Again, don’t ask. Hubert decides onpan seared sweetbreads with braised beef cheeks.
The judges and critics sit down for a wonderful meal, starting with the first food memory dishes. They loved Michael’s braised short ribs and thought they were perfection. The judges thought Hubert’s stew was incredible and his other dishes were unexpected, but pleasurable. Rick’s black mole gave Gail “shivers.” Um. Um?
The diners gave Rick 4.5 stars, Hubert 4 stars, and Michael 4.5stars. First, Kelly starts withMichael and hereceives a total of 17 stars. Hubert ends up with 16.5 stars and is eliminated. Finally, it’s downto Rick and he receives 18 stars, which makes him the winner ofTop Chef Masters.
