Top Chef Las Vegas swings into the second week with more Las Vegas-themed cooking. The most talented group of chefs ever assembled on Top Chef will see if they can gamble it all for a chance at being the next Top Chef. Hey, if they can do it week after week, so can I.

The Quickfire Challenge

The chefs were off to the Quickfire Challenge and Todd English, who was doing the guest judging duties, announced the big ingredient challenge using the crap tables and some dice. Hey, didn’t I just see this last night in Hell’s Kitchen? Well, anyway, the chefs rolled for how many ingredients they get to cook with and off they went to cook with whatever ingredients they rolled for.

With so many chefs, I was clueless who actually had dishes that might look good. Host Padma Lakshmi and Todd English were then off to see whose dish they liked. There were a lot of fancy-looking dishes out there, but English complained that many of the dishes seemed raw or mushy or some fancy chef term. The Quickfire winner was Michael V, who picked up a cool fifteen grand in addition to his immunity for the next challenge.

The Elimination Challenge

Padma told the chefs that they were doing a battle of the sexes challenge with the men and women cooking for a wedding couple at a bachelorette and bachelor party. The men were cooking for the lady and the women for the men and the losing team was then up for elimination.

After talking to the wedding couple, the chefs were giving The Whole Foods Market another plug as they were off to buy the stuff for the parties. The women seemed to have more of a handle on their clients’ needs at first glance. Well, their dishes looked prettier at the beginning, of course, it was for the guy, so pretty was probably not quite the issue.

After a tough day of cooking, several of the gay chefs were hacked-off that they had to cook for weddings because they couldn’t get married legally. Oh brother, Bravo…Really? Do you we have to have social commentary on a cooking show?

The day of the parties had the men seeming a bit more confident because there was not as many with cranky attitudes as they cooked. The girls were getting on each other’s nerves and the men were having much more fun servicing the bride and her guests.

The judges arrived and sampled the chef’s dishes and immediately started in on the pros and cons of each of the dishes. The men’s dishes seemed to be getting favorable reviews and the girls, not so much, at least for the judge’s sophisticated palates. Ashley, who was gripping the loudest about her sexuality as a cook, was the weakest from the judge’s viewpoint. But individually, it doesn’t matter as the losing team goes before the judge’s table.

The Judge’s Table

Padma called in several of the men and told them that they had the top recipes of the night and Michael V was again a rising star but brother, Bryan, came out on top as the winner of the elimination challenge.

Then some of the women Jesse, Eve, Preeti and Ashley, thank God, were called in to tell them that they sucked big time with their dishes. Ashley had the weakest answer about her dishes but her watermelon seemed to be pulling her through to the next round, according to the judges.

Preeti was getting the most negative feedback from the judges with Jesse a close second, it seemed, but in the end, Eve somehow found herself feeding at the bottom of the food chain and packed her knifes and left the building.
