Extreme Makeover Home Edition: Hampton Family

ABC Extreme Makeover Home Edition design team members Paige and Michael join Ty Pennington to head down historic Route 66 to help the Hampton family of Greene County, Missouri. Ty describes how Chris and Niki Hampton, who had two children of their own, were approached a few years back by social workers and asked to take in their four nieces and nephews, who had been removed from Niki’s sister’s home due to neglect. They took the kids into their tiny home with open hearts.
The big family is overjoyed to see Ty Pennington on door knock day. He sends the six kids into a frenzy by announcing that they’re going to Walt Disney World! They go inside to check out the house, where Ty is astounded to learn that the family has to eat on the floor, and the kids rotate between four bunk beds. The ceiling fan blades hit the kids in the top bunks, and the master bedroom has no door! Pennington delights the children by accompanying himself on the acoustic guitar and singing The Small House Blues!
As the Hampton family is enjoying a great time at Disney, Ty Pennington contacts them via video to watch the demolition of their little house. Ty has a particularly explosive performance planned for the family – as they watch in amazement their house is blown sky-high with dynamite! A red-faced Ty howls that he loves it!
The younger girls love High School Musical, so Ty Pennington calls up Ashley Tisdale to come to the site to help. She arrives bearing guitars! Soon, Ty has Ashley out where they are working on a new barn for the Hampton family. Chris and Niki both work for the Missouri Family Rodeo Association (Chris is the president), and they have rescued six horses.
Michael is designing the master bedroom with peace and serenity in mind – he disturbs the peace on the work site, though, by introducing his pet monkey on the scene – Ashley Tisdale’s not keen! Ty, meanwhile contacts the family to tell them they are going on a cruise to the Bahamas. The parents are treated to a private fancy dinner without the kids on board the ship!
As Ashley Tisdale remarks on the speed with which the new Extreme Makeover house went up, Paige Hemmis heads to Ozark Mountain Gymnastics, where she has the opportunity to meet Olympian Shawn Johnson, who provides her with an autographed memento for one of the girl’s rooms!
When Ty next contacts the Hampton family he thrills Hannah, age 8, by putting Ashley Tisdale on the computer screen. She informs the family that Drruur University has provided college scholarships for all six children! Chris Hampton dissolves in tears.
When the limousine finally pulls up in Greene County, the Hamptons get out and Ty and the crowd waste no time in starting to chant, “Move that bus!” The kids scream with delight as the new house is revealed. Chris and Nikki meet Sam Clifton from Millstone Construction, the builder of the new home, who, in an emotional moment, tells the Hamptons that they have raised funds and paid off their mortgage!
Ashley Tisdale performs for the Hampton family and volunteers at the new house. Hannah is blown away to have her favorite celebrity in her garage!
Inside their new house, the Hamptons marvel at the new, larger space. Ty Pennington comes in and explains that they used the wood from the old barn to make the big new table that will seat them all to eat!
The kids love the monkey room, Egypt room, the horse and airplane room, and the gymnastics room. Chris and Niki revel in their new master bedroom – especially the door with a lock on the inside!
Ty Pennington takes the family out in the backyard to see the new barn and greenhouse. The Hamptons are absolutely stunned. As the family once again thanks the design team, Ty Pennington shouts, “Welcome home, Hampton family, welcome home!”
