On Wednesday’s results show, Republican congressman Tom DeLay announced that he will no longer be competing on Dancing With The Stars due to stress fractures in his feet. Tom said that although he and partner Cheryl Burke were safe, he cannot continue practicing for the show any longer…
For a few weeks, DeLay had been performing against the advice of doctors. “If you can’t practice, you’ll make a fool out of yourself out there, and I don’t want to do that to Cheryl,” DeLay said.
According to a report on Usmagazine.com, after Monday night’s performance DeLay said, “It’s starting to hurt a little bit. It doesn’t hurt when you’re dancing… It’s because of the adrenaline, you don’t feel the pain, and that was the case. But I’m going to really feel it tomorrow, I bet you.” He continued to say that he was going to take it day by day.
So why did he even dance this week? “I did so poorly last week, and I wanted to show people that I could dance,” he told Us. “I never quit at anything! And the reason I came on this show is for the challenge, and I want to face the challenge.”
As far as his partner, Cheryl, she thinks he was nuts to get out on the dance floor. “I told him over a million times not to dance. I told him you’ve already gone out there and shocked America, showed them what you can do already. But he’s a stubborn man, and he’s very determined!” she added.
Dancing With The Stars kicks off Monday, September 21 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
