Cheryl Burke: It’s An Honor To Choreograph Michael Jackson Tribute

October 16, 2009 01:00 PM by Britteny Elrick

On this upcoming Tuesday night’s live results show, the performers of Dancing With The Stars will be paying tribute to the late Michael Jackson.  According to PEOPLE, the professionals have been choreographing special dance numbers to three of Jackson’s songs.  Keep reading for more details…

The tribute is being choreographed by professionals Derek Hough, Tony Dovolani, Cheryl Burke, Mark Ballas, and Maksim Chmerkovskiy.

The show’s executive producer, Conrad Green, said, “A lot of our dancers were very upset when he died. He was an inspiration to them and they wanted to do something fitting to honor him.”  He went on to say that Jackson’s songs have been featured about 14 times during the course of the show.  “This is quite personal for a lot of our dancers and our production.”

Although Green wouldn’t answer any questions in regards to song choice, he says they are iconic. “To be honest, we could do a whole show to his songs,” he added. “But we want it to be compact and memorable. It will be a heartfelt performance from our dancers.”

Cheryl Burke, who performed a very memorable “Thriller” dance number with partner Drew Lachey in season 2, feels lucky to be a part of this.  “It’s such an honor to choreograph and perform in this tribute,” Burke said. “His music and his artistry was such an inspiration to me as a dancer.”
