While Richard Heene adamantly denied on Saturday afternoon that the whole balloon escapade was a hoax, the authorities were gathering evidence to in fact prove that it was a hoax. The Wife Swap family seems to love the publicity that being on TV has gotten them and chose to continue it in any way possible. Yesterday they announced that they are going to request that several charges be brought against Falcon Heene’s parents, Richard and Mayumi, for what they call a planned stunt with the hopes of launching a reality television show.
The sheriff said he expected to recommend charges of conspiracy, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, making a false report to authorities and attempting to influence a public servant against the parents from the ABC show Wife Swap. He says that he is also going to be looking into felony charges with the most serious carrying a maximum sentence of six years in prison and a $500,000 fine. They will definitely be looking into making the family reimburse the authorities for the money spent on the rescue attempts. The helicopters that were used alone cost over $14,500.00.
The authorities seem to have no interest in arresting Richard and/or Mayumi in front of their children and stress that at this point no charges have been brought. However, they are asking that when, not if, they are, that the parents turn themselves in. Richards lawyer says that he has no problem being questioned or turning himself in.
The latest news uncovers that the entire hoax may have involved other adults, neighbors and friends that the Heene’s recruited to help them make the whole act look real. One “friend” has already sold his story to an online tabloid including copies of emails he claims are legit between himself and Richard.
What do you believe? Did Wife Swap go to their head? Was it all a hoax? And if it was, have the Heene’s succeeded in getting the attention they wanted with all the publicity coming there way now and is the media helping their dreams come true? Or do they get whatever is coming to them?
