Last night on Dancing With The Stars, Max Chmerkovskiy had to step in for Derek Hough as he was sick with the flu and after the show, star Kelly Osbourne went to the hospital with a sprained foot. She will be available to dance again next week as long as she isn’t eliminated tonight. The highlight of Dancing With The Stars tonight was the pro dancers tribute to Michael Jackson in a beautiful Macy’s Stars of Dance performance which was introduced by Michael’s sister Latoya Jackson.
Len chose the dance for the repeat performance that reached the highest score this season and it was Donny and Kym’s Argentine Tango. The stars then talked about the importance of performing a tribute dance to Michael Jackson this evening.
Next, special guest and nine time Grammy award winner Nora Jones sang. After her blues song, host Tom Bergeron let the top three couples off the hook; Mark and Lacey, Donny and Kym and Mya and Dmitry were all safe.
Tom then told Joanna and Derek and Aaron and Karina that they were in jeopardy, while Kelly and Louis were safe. Four couples had been saved while two couples were in jeopardy.
Michael and Anna were also safe this evening, but Natalie and Alec were not as lucky and were in jeopardy.
Nora Jones sang her hit song Come Away With Me while the pros danced and then Louie and Chelsie were told they were safe, while Melissa and Mark were the fourth couple still in jeopardy.
All 16 Professional Dancers from Season 9 then paid tribute on the ballroom floor to the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson in a special Macy’s Stars of Dance performance. The Dancing With The Stars professional dancers honored Michael Jackson’s music and influence on dance with a fusion of classic ballroom and Latin styles. Choreographed by the professional dancers, this performance paid tribute in a medley of three of Michael Jackson’s hit songs representing different styles and eras of his work.
Contributing to this special dance performance were: Mark Ballas, Cheryl Burke, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Anna Demidova, Tony Dovolani, Chelsie Hightower, Derek Hough, Kym Johnson, Alec Mazo, Jonathan Roberts, Lacey Schwimmer, Edyta Sliwinska, Karina Smirnoff, Anna Trebunskaya and Louis Van Amstel.
Here’s what some of the pro dancers had to say about Michael Jackson and this Macy’s Stars of Dance performance:
“Michael Jackson and his music are an inspiration to every dancer. As a performer he was such an innovator that to be able to choreograph part of this tribute to him is an honor.” Cheryl Burke
“Michael Jackson is the reason why I started to dance. I find it hard not to incorporate some element of Michael Jackson into any dance I do. His style and inspiration is forever engraved in my soul.” Derek Hough
“Michael Jackson was my absolute idol and inspiration. It’s extremely important for me to do a great job with this routine. I love the song I’m choreographing to and all of us in my portion are having a blast dancing the number.” Maksim Chmerkovskiy
“Michael Jackson is the reason I do what a do. He has been a lifelong idol and inspiration of mine. There will never be anyone or anything like him again — simply the best.” Mark Ballas
After the tribute, the couple going home was announced on Dancing With The Stars and they were Natalie and Alec.
