Jason Mesnick Wasn’t Willing To Let Molly Be The Bachelorette

October 28, 2009 03:00 PM by Britteny Elrick

When Jason Mesnick broke off his engagement with Melissa Rycroft on national television, it made Bachelor history.  No one was really sure what had gone on behind the scenes or why things didn’t work out between the seemingly happy couple.  Finally, Jason is opening up about Melissa and why he’s sure Molly is the one…

In this week’s issue of Us Weekly, Jason said that only a week after he proposed to Rycroft the producers were asking if he thought Molly would make a good Bachelorette. He said, “I realized I was not willing to let Molly go on TV and have 25 guys fight over her.”

Ultimately, Jason said that the main problem between he and Melissa was a lack of chemistry.  “Melissa is a great girl, but there wasn’t any chemistry,” he admitted. “So I broke up with her after Christmas, about a month after we wrapped.”  He also confirmed what we already thought – he and Melissa had split privately, prior to the After the Final Rose ceremony when he “broke the news.”

Although Melissa knew what was going to happen, Molly did not.  Jason was forbidden from contacting Molly until after the show finished airing, and so he took the first chance he got to ask her out. “Obviously, I didn’t want it all on TV, but I had to take the chance if it meant getting her back. I’d rather have picked up the phone, trust me!” he continued.

The new season of The Bachelor will premiere in early 2010 on ABC.  We can’t wait!
