Randy Jackson: This Is A Year For The Girls On American Idol

October 29, 2009 01:08 PM by Britteny Elrick

The buzz is already starting about the next season of American Idol.  As we know, the girls have been rather weak in the past few seasons, but according to judge Randy Jackson this year is going to be all about the ladies!  Keep reading to hear what he had to say…

The 9th season of American Idol is set to air January 2010 and Randy said it will be a very interesting and different season. “I think I have to give the edge going in to the girls,” Jackson told PEOPLE at the Yahoo! Yodel Studio in New York City. “We haven’t had a girl winner in a long time and some interesting talented girls showed up [to audition.]”

Of course, we all know that one of the biggest differences is fourth judge, Ellen DeGeneres, who will replace Paula Abdul.  “I think Ellen will bring an easy light kind of side to it,” Jackson said. “She isn’t that music aficionado like all of us but I don’t think the panel necessarily needed more of that.”

“Ellen is a friend of all of ours,” Jackson says. “She is going to be good.”
