Extreme Makeover Home Edition: Mattingly Family and Clint Black!
November 01, 2009 06:59 PM by Candace Young

Tonight on ABC’s Extreme Makeover Home Edition, the design team, headed by Ty Pennington is headed to help out the Mattingly family in Kentucky. Melissa and Steve have two daughters. Steve was a volunteer firefighter and both were EMS paramedics. Melissa had the misfortune of witnessing Steve get hit by a vehicle in the line of duty – the kids were there as well. The team, along with returning celebrity helper, Xhibit, watch the video that describes the physical and mental challenges faced by Steve and his family since the accident. Unable to build the home they had planned, they are now stuck living in a run-down trailer home and can barely afford to pay the bills. Tonight the team will also be joined by country musician, and Celebrity Apprentice alum, Clint Black.
Ty Pennington and the gang arrive for Door Knock Day, and greet the Mattingly family. Melissa cries as she recounts what it was like to see her husband get hit. Ty informs them that they are going on a Disney cruise to the Bahamas!
Ty takes his usual tour through the current home, and notices there is no dining room table. He also notices the Clint Black cds. Ty learns that their only income is earned by Melissa doing massage therapy 20 miles away in Owensboro. Outside, Michael and Xhibit play with the family’s five dogs and the two girls. They establish that the daughters love frogs and dogs!
Before the family leaves on their trip, Ty announces one more surprise for them – they are stunned to see a huge crowd of volunteers coming up the road, headed by an ambulance and Tommy Thompson of Thompson Homes.

As the trailer home is being packed up, Xhibit persists in calling Michael, Mike. Taking exception to this, Michael coyly lets the world know that Xhibit’s real name is, in fact, Alvin. Outside, the crowd cheers as Monster Jam truck, Maximum Destruction, is brought in and smashes through the trailer!
Michael, who has broken his wrist, is supervising the building of doghouses, and Ty is in the woods rounding up material to make some sort of nest. Xhibit is researching animals on behalf of the girls, Alaina and Madison. He does this by diving in a sea aquarium with sharks and sea turtles!
Clint Black arrives to much fanfare. He says he can’t imagine his wife, Lisa Hartman-Black watching him suffer, so it was a no-brainer to come and help out. Clint gets into some woodworking with Didiayer, telling her he used to be an ironworker. He also worked in construction for a year – and admits it’s very hard work. Ty puts Clint on the telephone with the Mattingly family. They open the gift Ty gave them earlier – it’s a shredder and their bills – Sears is paying off their debts!

Clint also gets involved doing stonework and takes some ribbing about getting rough hands. Mike and Alvin, aka, Michael and Xhibit, are shopping for electronics at Sears. Didiayer and Clint next go to a clinic set-up by the Red Cross to teach CPR.
Soon, the house is being decorated, and Mudd’s delivers the furniture. The Mattingly family is brought back to a ‘sea of love’. Ty asks if they want to see what is behind the bus, and the chant begins. Melissa sobs as the house is revealed, Steve yells, “Thank you,” and the girls cry. They thank the builders and meet Clint Black before heading in to check out their new home.
Melissa is thrilled with the space to do canning in the kitchen, and Steve comments that if his back wasn’t bad he would have carried his wife across the threshold!

Madison is tickled by her orange room, complete with doggy photos and a doggy door which leads out to five outdoor doghouses and a run area! Alaina has a marine life theme happening in her room, complete with a huge aquarium – she loves it. Melissa and Steve describe their master bedroom as heavenly and peaceful. They admire the framed family photos placed around the room.
Finally, Melissa gets to see her new onsite massage room/business designed by Ty. It’s called Two Doves Massage, and the sign is inside the nest made by Ty.
The family is also presented with a new Ford Taurus car by Extreme Makeover Home Edition before settling into their new living room to listen to a song by Clint Black.
