Dancing With The Stars 11/09/09: One Ballroom and One Latin Dance Equals Two Times The Work

It is a race to the mirror ball trophy and tonight on Dancing With The Stars, the couples will be taking on two dances; one ballroom and one era specific latin. The five remaining couples are vying for a spot in next week’s semi-finals as they dance through the decades this evening. Let the battle begin.
The show began with the ballroom round and Mya and Dmitry were the lucky couple to hit the floor first this evening. Mya was pushing herself very hard to get back on top, so Dmitry took her horse back riding for a break and a chance to get back to nature. She was recharged and ready to Quick step. I love Mya, her smile and exotic look is beautiful. Her footwork was clean and the song suited her personality. Len began by saying that he couldn’t find anything to criticize this evening. Bruno said that Mya was quality and her dance was full of flavor. Carrie Ann said that Mya made this dance seem so easy, as if it just flowed out of her body. Their first scores of the night were 9, 10 and 10 a 29! Wow!
Aaron and Karina were next, dancing the Fox trot. Karina was sick, but she was not about to let anything get in the way of their dancing together tonight. Aaron seemed so happy to have her by his side and again overkill kicked in, poor guy. He is like a kid in a candy store. Bruno said he could see how much work went into the dance, but he felt that it was a little bit tense. Carrie Ann agreed and said that every detail will be watched now and there was a bit of lost fluidity. Len said that Aaron has so many emotions and for a young man he dances very, very well and reminds him of his son in a toy store. Their scores for ballroom were 7, 8 and 8 a 23.
Next up in the ballroom round was swimsuit model and as of this week, playboy centerfold, Joanna and her partner Derek. Joanna was hoping that she would be able to stay one step ahead of the competition by viewing Mya’s routines. She still tripped up tonight and seems to be trying too hard. Carrie Ann said that she noticed a few out of sync moments, but there was a lot of content in the routine. Len said that there was a lot of running about and a lack of body contact and Bruno said it looked like Joanna was running away from a scene of a crime. The scores were 8, 7 and 8 a 23.
The challenging night of ballroom continued with Kelly and Louis dancing the Fox trot next. Kelly was very distracted and Louis was hoping he could keep her attention enough to win this competition. She was very sassy tonight and a lot more relaxed. Excellent! Len said that she was very graceful and elegant even though her footwork was distracting. Bruno said she was light on her feet and Carrie Ann said that the moment Kelly has a breakthrough she is so special, but she needs to work on her spots and her extension. They received 8, 8 and 9 a 25.
The final ballroom round dance tonight was from Donny and Kym. They were dancing the Vienesse Waltz. Last week Donny hit a brick wall, but he was feeling rejuvenated. You could see how focused he was tonight. Their routine was lovely. Bruno said that Donny could really play it. Carrie Ann said that she found the dance mesmorizing and Len thought that the fleckle step was good, but it was a bit arty farty? Their first scores were 9, 8 and 9 a 26.
The era specific Latin round was next and Mya and Dmitry were dancing the 70′s Samba. Their dress was definately 70′s, but the dance seemed more disco to me though. Carrie Ann said that she believed that Mya wanted to win this competition. Len said that Mya’s hips were hypnotic and Bruno said that Mya was unbelievable. The received a perfect 30!
The time travelling Latin round continued with Aaron and Karina dancing the 90′s Samba. Since it was the era Aaron grew up in, he felt that he had a lead on the competition. It was a cool dance and had a lot of energy that Aaron is known for. Len said that Aaron came out and performed it and worked his socks off. Bruno said that all of the energy has finally made good and Carrie Ann said that Aaron is finally a true performer. They received triple 9′s a 27!
Next on the floor with a futuristic Pasodoble were Joanna and Derek. The routine was awesome, right down to their lit up costumes. Bruno said it was a masterful reinvention of the classic. Carrie Ann said that it wasn’t easy and was outstanding and Len said it was genious! They received 9, 10 and 10 a 29.
Two more couples were left to perform tonight and next up was Kelly and Louis with a 60′s themed Jive. Kelly brought her knowledge to the floor and the routine was excellent. Len said that Kelly had been a revelation to him and she has come in week after week stronger and stronger. Bruno said she can have her doll and she had gone for it. Carrie Ann said it was one of Kelly’s best performances. They received 8, 9 and 9 a 26.
Donny and Kym were the last to perform their Latin 80′s themed Pasodoble tonight. Donny looked like a handsome Michael Jackson and Kym looked like she was out of the thriller video. Awesome! Â Len thought it was crazy and bizarre and scary too and he liked it. Bruno said that no one could ever top this routine and Carrie Ann thought it was hysterical and they did a great job of bringing it, except it was a little odd for her. They received 8, 8 and 8 for 24.
Tomorrow night Michael Buble and Susan Boyle perform on Dancing With The Stars, the results at 9 PM ET on ABC.
