So You Think You Can Dance Choreographer Teams Up With Syesha Mercado

Move over Jennifer Hudson! She’s not the only former American Idol contestant to break into the acting business. Syesha Mercado, season 7 finalist, has joined the cast of the Broadway adaptation of Dreamgirls. Jennifer previously won an Oscar for her performance in the movie version. In preparation for her role, Syesha will be teaming up with Shane Sparks, So You Think You Can Dance choreographer. Keep reading to hear what Shane had to say about working with Syesha…
Shane recently spoke to Usmagazine.com about Syesha’s transformation from singer to dancer. “Any show where you’re constantly doing what you love to do, working with different singers, different producers, in a different environment, it always helps you grow,” Shane said. “That’s why she’s so well rounded for this show now… That girl is so groomed as an actress.”
“She never had a problem with any of the moves,” he continued. “I’ve done staging for So You Think You Can Dance, but staging for a Broadway show is totally different because you’ve got to worry about upstage, downstage, stage right, stage left!”
In January, Shane will start auditions across the country for the next season of America’s Best Dance Crew. “This will be the first season that we actually go out on the road to have auditions!” he said.
