Tonight was the premiere episode of Launch My Line on BRAVO. This new fashion competition features 10 well known fashion designers paired with 10 industry professionals who have always wanted to have their own fashion line. As teams are created and personalities will clash and tempers will flare, this is one series you don’t want to miss this!
Acclaimed designers, twin brothers Dean and Dan Caten of DSQUARED2 will be our hosts on Launch My Line on BRAVO. As our experts and designers are brought in, Dan and Dean go over the rules with them and here’s how it works. Each week the teams will be put to the challenge of creating a piece and then presenting it on the runway. After every challenge one team’s line will be dropped and they will be out of the competition. Whoever wins the competition will get their own fashion line and the expert will get $50k.
First order of business on Launch My Line on BRAVO was pairing up our designers and experts. Here is the official list for you. The designers: David Applebaum, Architect; Kevin Black, Music Mogul; Marilyn Crawford, CEO; Eric Cubeechee, DJ; Merle Ginsberg, Fashion Critic; Vanessa Gonzalez, Event Designer; Dan Karaty, Choreographer; Patrick McDonald, Fashion Writer; Louanna Rawls, Stylist and Kathy Rose, Jewelry Designer. Here are the experts: Akiko, Coco, Emil, Galina, Jim, Julie, Roberto, Susan, Thai and Tressa.
Then Dan and Dean give them their first task: choosing a name, logo and signature design all within an hour. Upon being paired up, the contestants are asked to come up with a name, logo and signature design for their lines. Then they are asked to pick out 10 fabrics, and 10 fabrics only that they will use for the next 8 weeks. For their very first challenge, they must create a signature piece for their line in under 2 days and then present them in a fashion show.
After struggling to get this challenge done in 2 days, all of our designers managed to finish just in time with the help of their experts. Now their designs would be on the runway for judging. Joining Dean and Dan for judging are Stefani Greenville and Lisa Kline.
After careful review of all the new designs on Launch My Line on BRAVO the four judges decided that Louana Rawls won the first challenge with the best design. They also decided that the line in which would be dropped was that of Dan Karaty, who’s design just couldn’t cut it. I can’t wait to what new designs these stars come up with next!
