Last week, two more of Adam Lambert’s scheduled TV appearances were canceled on ABC. Adam responded to this on his Twitter account by saying that he didn’t blame them considering the fallout after his AMA performance. Although Adam thinks that they are trying to please the FCC, Kara DioGuardi has another theory…
After hundreds of protests from the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, ABC released the following statement:
“Given the live nature of the American Music Awards, Adam Lambert’s performance, which differed greatly from his rehearsal, caught many, including the network, off guard. This is not a question of Lambert’s sexual orientation. As is evidenced by GLAAD’s media report card, ABC is at the forefront of positive gay and lesbian portrayal on television. We welcome openly gay performers and look forward to continuing our great work within the LGBT community.”
So what does Kara DioGuardi think? “We’re living in a pretty bad economic time, so they have to do what they have to do to keep their advertisers,” DioGuardi told E! News exclusively. “Networks are doing what they think their viewers want and don’t want, so it’s just budgetary.”
Kara wasn’t freaked out by Adam’s AMA performance, in fact, she expected something crazy. “We always know he’s going to shock us, right?” she continued. “He’s going to wow us and give us the unexpected, and that’s his thing…That’s what we look for.”
