December 16, 2009 05:21 PM by Lisa Princ

Almost a year after debuting on American Idol on FOX, Kris Allen and Allison Iraheta will be spending this New years eve on Billboard’s New Year’s Eve Live on FOX. Since American Idol, they both have new albums out and are keeping extremely busy. Hear what they had to say about their lives post American Idol and their plans for Billboard’s New Year’s Eve Live.

In an interview today with both Kris Allen and Alison Iraheta, they dished about New Years Eve as well as their new albums and life post American Idol. Here is what they wanted to share:

Question: As new year’s approaches and we reflect on the past year, can you tell us what your favorite album or artist was this past year?

Allison Iraheta: “Only by the night” by Kings of Leon

Kris Allen: Yes, that’s a good one. Mine would be Jon Mayer.

Question: What are your new year’s resolutions?

Allison Iraheta: I don’t have one, my resolution is to not have a resolution.

Kris Allen: For me, it’s work harder on music stuff, like writing and performing.

Question: What made you want to perform on New Year’s Eve Live as opposed to staying home with your families?

Kris Allen: I’ve never been to Vegas, so it is going to be lots of fun for me.

Allison Iraheta: Who wouldn’t want to be in Vegas performing? It’s going to be tons of fun.

Question: Do you have a set list and how many songs will you sing?

Kris Allen: A few songs from the album.

Allison Iraheta: I have no idea yet.

Question: Twitter is a big part of your daily activities, why is it so important to speak to your fans?

Allison Iraheta: I guess because it is an easier way to get in touch with them.

Kris Allen: Fans get to see a different side of you. There is alot of stupid crap that goes through my mind, and twitter
lets me post that so I can share with my fans. I think its important that fans get to see this side of you.

Question: What is your best advice to American Idols hopefuls?

Kris Allen: Just rock it, all you can do is your best.

Allison Iraheta: My advice is stay true to yourselves.

Question: With all the recent news about Adam Lambert are you surprised and do you think it will hurt him?

Kris Allen: No, no one should be surprised, nor do I think it will hurt him.

Alison Iraheta: No, anyone who knows Adam would not be surprised, and I agree that it won’t hurt him, it is who he is.

Question: What has changed in your music since American Idol?

Kris Allen: For me I am going through the whole process of starting to learn who I want to be as an artist.

Allison Iraheta: The whole process has helped all of us to figure out who we want to be as an artist. It has also
opened more doors to new music for me, as I have been listening to new stuff that I wasn’t listening to then.

Question: What was your most memorable new year’s eve?

Allison Iraheta: My huge family and I eating our faces off until the morning.

Kris Allen: I had a party at my house of about 45 people or so. We were outside lighting sparklers and one girl’s pants caught on fire. She has never been back to my house [laughing].

Question: Are you planning anything special for your performances on Billboard’s New Year’s Eve Live?

Kris Allen: Not that I know of anyway, maybe….maybe we will do something….I don’t like to think more than one day ahead.

Allison Iraheta: No clue, I don’t like to think more than a few hours ahead [laughs].

Question: What is your typical New Year’s day consist of?

Allison Iraheta: Spending the day with my family, stuffing my face with food.

Kris Allen: We go to my mom’s. She always makes cabbage and black eyed peas, it’s supposed to bring luck all year.

Question: Give us your thoughts on Paula’s recent departure from American Idol and how you think the show will do without her?

Kris Allen: Paula’s the one we get to know the best, she is a sweetheart and the show is gonna miss her. She was a nice person to have on there, but I don’t know of one person who doesn’t like Ellen.

Allison Iraheta: Obviously we are all gonna miss her. I am pretty happy that we got the chance to work with her.

Question: So for each of you, what is your favorite song off the other’s album?

Allison Iraheta: Mine is “Live like you’re dying” and “Red guitar”

Kris Allen: Aw, thank you. Mine would be “You don’t know me”

Allison Iraheta: Ah Kris, you don’t know me [chuckles]

Question: How do you plan to use your American Idol success while creating your own music identity?

Kris Allen: For me it’s about putting what’s inside of me and everything I can do into music and come out with good stuff. I don’t plan on trying to make a mark, just wanna make music and people to hear it. And of course to be pleasantly successful doing it.

Allison Iraheta: I guess for me it would be the same as Kris, to get my name out there. Getting known as the red headed girl from idol is cool, but people need to know who I am.

We look forward to watching Kris Allen and Allison Iraheta on BillBoard’s New Year’s Eve Live on FOX. Be sure to tune in!
