Biggest Loser: Jillian Michaels Concerned For Safety Of Contestants

January 05, 2010 01:00 PM by Britteny Elrick

Ready for tonight’s premiere of The Biggest Loser? Trainer Jillian Michaels certainly is. In the latest issue of Ladies’ Home Journal, Jillian discussed her genuine concern for the safety of the contestants as well as her own weight loss journey. Keep reading for more details…

This season, the show will feature its largest contestants ever. “The contestants keep getting bigger and bigger. As the trainers we have no say over the challenges. We worry about them too,” Jillian said. She added that there is alot more hard work than what we end up seeing. “For every 10 minutes we’re on the show, acting like insane people, there are a hundred hours of training you don’t see. The stretching, the icing. Nobody wants to watch that.”

After battling weight as a teenager, Jillian understands just how hard the journey is. “I lived on junk food,” she continued. “I had no direction.” Jillian channels those adolescent feelings when dealing with The Biggest Loser contestants. “I’m passionate about helping people rebuild their lives. When someone feels strong physically, they feel strong in every aspect of their existence. If they have endurance and achieve in the gym, then I can redefine their entire self image. I can wipe away years of negativity.”

The Biggest Loser premieres on Tuesday, January 5 at 8 p.m. on NBC.
