2010 is shaping up to be a very good year for American Idol Season 4 Winner, Carrie Underwood. A new engagement (to hockey player, Mike Fisher), a new award, and a very promising gig at a little event called the Super Bowl. Read more about Carrie’s big year…
At the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday night, the American Idol Alum took home an award for Best Country Collaboration with Vocals for “I Told You So” with Randy Travis. This is the fifth Grammy for Underwood who was the only former American Idol contestant to win at this year’s ceremony (despite nominations for Kelly Clarkson, Mandisa, and Ruben Studdard).
As if that weren’t enough, Underwood also has a very high-profile gig coming up this weekend when she’s slated to sing the National Anthem at Super Bowl XLIV. Good thing ex-boyfriend Tony Romo’s team isn’t playing. So how did the American Idol winner get chosen for the honor? NFL Spokesman Brian McCarthy says, “The national anthem is a difficult song to sing and we look for someone who can deliver a first-class performance. We also look for someone who is nationally and internationally known as the performance will be televised worldwide in 230 countries and territories.”
In addition to her professional success, Underwood’s personal life seems to be thriving as well. In December 2009, she became engaged to professional hockey player Mike Fisher when he popped the question with a flawless yellow diamond engagement ring, estimated to be worth around $150,000. Um, we would’ve said yes to that too. The couple hasn’t set a date yet for their upcoming nuptials.
