She may no longer be starring on MTV’s hit reality show, The Hills, but Lauren Conrad is using her celebrity status for a good cause. The reality star-turned-magazine-editor-turned-fashion-designer-turned-bestselling-author is adding two new titles to her ever-expanding resume: jewelry designer and philanthropist. Keep reading to find out what LC is doing to help put an end to dating abuse…
Conrad, former star of The Hills, has partnered with Mark Cosmetics (the younger, hipper branch of Avon) to fight against dating abuse and partner violence. The reality star (and recent bestselling young adult author) has designed the “Have a Heart” bracelet for the m.powerment by Mark line. The gold-toned bracelet features a small medallion that has a heart on one side and the m.powerment emblem on the other. It accompanies the “Have a Heart” necklace which is featured in gold and silver.
The bracelet sells for the low price of $12 with nearly all of the proceeds ($11.01) going to help break the cycle of dating abuse and partner violence by providing young women with education and support. An honorary co-chair for the organization, Conrad helped launched the m.powerment initiative in September of 2008 and has already raised $400,000 for the cause. “I decided to get involved with this initiative because it is something that unfortunately affects so many young women my age,†The former Hills star says. “Through this partnership with mark, I’ve been able to take a stand and show my commitment to help break the cycle of dating abuse and partner violence even before it begins. I am committed to leading the charge to raise awareness and encourage others to get involved.â€
The Hills star is grateful for the success that she found with MTV for this very reason, “I am grateful to the show because it provided me with the platform to do other things that I really enjoy like joining with Mark to support a good cause,” said Conrad.
