Project Runway‘s seventh season is well underway on Lifetime but nowhere close to being down to the top three contestants. After five episodes have aired, eleven designers still remain on the reality competition. Project Runway is going to extreme measures to protect the identities of the top three competitors by allowing the entire top ten to show collections at Fashion Week.
“We’re showing 10 designers because everyone is still watching, and we don’t want anyone to know who our three finalists are,†said Runway host Heidi Klum. Despite heightened security measures at the 2009 Fashion Show, the identities of the top three contenders in Project Runway‘s sixth season ended up being leaked to the public far before the finale aired. During the show’s fifth season (it’s last to air on Bravo before switching to Lifetime), six designers showed their collections, but never in the show’s history have ten designers been given the opportunity.
Along with regular judges Heidi Klum, Nina Garcia, and Michael Kors, country star Faith Hill will be joining the panel as a celebrity guest judge to help decide this year’s winner. The collections ranged in style from military-inspired looks to futuristic styles to 1940′s-themed designs. Project Runway mentor, Tim Gunn says, ”I’ve never seen a season of Project Runway that has had such a distinctive point of view among a group of designers,” he said after the show. “Any of the 10 could rise to the top, to be honest.”
