After announcing that she would not be returning to So You Think You Can Dance, eccentric choreographer Mia Michaels is back for season seven….kind of. Michaels announced her departure from the show last October so that she could focus on other projects, but reports are circulating that Michaels is definitely involved in the upcoming season of the hit reality dance competition. Keep reading to find out how…
Mia Michaels is a longtime fan favorite on So You Think You Can Dance. The Emmy winner has choreographed some of the show’s most memorable pieces throughout the years and has brought her spunky and outlandish perspective to the judging panel for five straight seasons. Naturally fans were saddened by the news that she wouldn’t be returning to the FOX dance competition after season six. Fortunately, we have news that she’ll be back for at least part of season seven!
Michaels returned to So You Think You Can Dance to serve as a guest judge for the New York City auditions held on January 26th. As for whether or not, she’ll be a part of the show after tryouts is still a mystery. “We’ll see…I’m taking it day-by-day,” Michaels says about her future with the show. “[Nigel and I] have a great relationship and if it’s meant to be, it’ll be.”
Regardless of whether or not she’ll appear on So You Think You Can Dance this season, executive producer and judge Nigel Lythgoe hopes to continue their professional relationship. ”I want to produce a Mia Michaels show for the stage,” Lythgoe tells Us magazine. “We’ve spoken about doing tours and everything, and it’s just really pinning [logistics] down. When you’ve got a brilliant artist like Mia, you just want to find ways of showing her art and expressing it.”
The seventh season of So You Think You Can Dance returns to FOX for a summer season on Thursday, May 27th. Auditions for the hit dance competition are currently taking place across the country. Upcoming auditions will be held in Dallas, Nashville, Los Angeles, and Chicago.
