If anyone understands the stress and pressure of competing on American Idol, it’s Kris Allen. In a recent interview, the season 8 winner offers some inspiring and unusual advice (jumping jacks?) to this year’s Top 24 contestants, dishes on his favorite contestants so far, and discusses his thoughts on who should replace Simon Cowell…
Kris Allen was a surprising champ on American Idol‘s eighth season, edging out fan favorite Danny Gokey and eccentric rocker Adam Lambert for the crown. His laid-back charm and incredible music talent led to the underdog’s victory and now he’s offering up some advice to this year’s batch of Idol hopefuls. “Don’t be nervous. People can tell, so just go out, be comfortable and be yourself,†the season 8 winner says. “Jumping jacks always help.â€
Allen has been tuning into American Idol‘s ninth season and has formed some opinions of his own about this year’s front-runners. “I thought Andrew Garcia was really good,†he says. So does that mean Allen thinks Garcia will win it all? Nope. As for this year’s winner, the reigning Idol champ predicts, “It’s going to be a girl, maybe a country girl.â€
Kris Allen also has some opinions about American Idol‘s newest judge, comedienne Ellen DeGeneres. “She has a really great personality,†he says. “She’s a lot of fun. She’s really quick and is really good for live TV.†But as much as Allen likes Ellen, he thinks Simon Cowell‘s replacement should be a man. Even though Allen thought celebrity judge Katy Perry did a great job on Idol, he thinks adding another female to the panel “might be a little too woman friendly. Maybe it should be a guy.â€
Fans will be delighted to know that the current Idol champ will be returning to the FOX reality singing competition’s stage soon. “I’m going to be on the show after my trip to Haiti with the U.N.,â€Â Kris Allen says. “I’m going to help to raise awareness about what’s still going on in Haiti.†The special episode will air on February 25th.
