Fantasia Barrino, winner of American Idol‘s third season, is being heavily guarded by her security staff after receiving a threatening letter filled with racial slurs. The letter was delivered with a stack of fan mail to the R&B singer on Friday and immediately set off alarms with the star and her security detail. Keep reading for all the terrifying details…

American Idol season three champ, Fantasia Barrino, became “alarmed” after receiving a racially-charged hate letter on Friday. The singer, who is currently starring in “The Color Purple” in Los Angeles, grew concerned after reading a threatening letter from someone claiming to be a former FOX employee.

Barrino’s manager says the letter contained several racial slurs, including the N-word, and a line that read “go back where you came from and die.” A source says that the person who wrote the letter claims to have previously been employed as a FOX security guard during Barrino’s stint on American Idol.

The incident was reported to the LAPD. Fantasia Barrino’s personal security detail, as well as the security at Pantages Theater, the venue where her “The Color Purple” run is being held, have increased their security measures to ensure the singer’s safety.

Despite the scare, the American Idol champ has a message for haters out there: she won’t be intimidated. The singer told TMZ ”I will not be defeated by one person’s hatred.” She continues her performance as Celie in “The Color Purple” at LA’s Pantages Theater.
