If anyone knows good fashion, it’s Project Runway‘s long-time mentor, Tim Gunn. The former faculty member at Parsons The New School For Design and current Chief Creative Officer for Liz Claiborne has helped Runway’s contestants “make it work” for seven seasons. Now he’s sounding off about the fashions of some other reality stars like the cast of Jersey Shore and the Kardashians…
Project Runway‘s Tim Gunn certainly has no issue keeping his opinions to himself, especially when it comes to fashion design. That is, after all what he gets paid for. So it’s no surprise that the Project Runway mentor and fashion guru has something to say about the styles featured on a few other popular reality shows.
When asked what he thought about the style on Jersey Shore, Gunn said, “Ugh! Oh! Don’t even get me started. It is not a style to emulate.” He certainly isn’t a fan of how the show might be influencing young girls either. “I know that the show is hugely popular. I will tell you it pains me when I hear 12-year-old girls say it’s their favorite show. You shouldn’t be watching it! And it’s so incendiary that New Jersey is no longer permitting it to be taped in New Jersey,” he says.
Ok, so he clearly doesn’t like the cast of Jersey Shore, but what about the stars of Keeping Up With The Kardashians? The family owns and operates two clothing boutiques and now have plans to launch a line with Bebe. When asked what he thought, Gunn said, “I just think the Kardashians have an absence of taste and I don’t think that that should be perpetuated. I’m sorry I’m sounding like an old farty snob but it bothers me.”
In fact, Tim Gunn isn’t really a fan of celebrity clothing lines at all, saying, “I will say in general with celebrity labels, with the understanding that they’re not actually designing them, but you hope in a way that they’re not overseeing them either.” Take note, Heidi Montag.
