American Idol season 4 champion, Carrie Underwood, is having a great week! The country star was nominated for six Academy of Country Music awards on Monday. Keep reading for details on the nominations and Underwood’s opportunity to make history…
American Idol alum Carrie Underwood‘s career is showing no signs of slowing down. The country singing beauty has just received six nominations from the Academy of Country Music, the second highest nominations received by any artist this year (Lady Antebellum received seven, with Miranda Lambert tying Underwood with six). If she nabs one of the awards, Carrie Underwood could make history in the Academy of Country Music.
The American Idol star is currently the reigning ACM Entertainer of the Year, an award she was nominated for again this year. If Carrie Underwood takes home the trophy again, she’ll be the first female in ACM’s history to win two Entertainer of the Year awards. She has some fierce competition though! Other nominees include Kenny Chesney, Toby Keith, Brad Paisley, George Strait, Taylor Swift, Keith Urban and the Zac Brown Band.
Carrie Underwood also received a nomination for Top Female Vocalist and a win would be her fourth consecutive victory in that category. The American Idol star was also nominated for artist and writer for Song of the Year (for “Cowboy Casanova”), Vocal Event of the Year (for “I Told You So” with Randy Travis), and Album of the Year (for “Play On”). Carrie Underwood won in the Album of the Year category in 2006 for “Some Hearts.” The American Idol vet recently took home her fifth Grammy award for Best Country Collaboration with Vocals (for ”I Told You So” with Randy Travis).
The ACM awards will air live from Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Sunday, April 18 (8 p.m. Eastern, CBS).
