Joe Munoz was probably not the most shocking exit of the American Idol this season because he unfortunately was one of the competitors who did not get a lot of back story and did not have a real sob story for the viewers to grab onto.  He was still very likable though and was more than willing to open up to reporters.  Do you think he should have lasted in the American Idol top 24 longer than he did?

Question: Hello, Joe.  I was sort of wondering, we didn’t get to see very much of you before the top 24.  Were you disappointed when you watched the first six weeks or so of the show and didn’t really see yourself?

Joe Munoz: I didn’t really have much control over it.  That’s just how they try to handle the show, so I wasn’t really disappointed.  I think I had my moment and, well, got eliminated, but I had a blast.

Question: Where do you see yourself going from here?  Are you committed to a career in music, and if so, how do you want to pursue that?  What is your sound, do you think?

Joe Munoz: I really love pop music, so I’m just a pop guy, and I see myself doing a pop record.  Also, there’s a lot of artists doing a lot of things right now, so I really want to be that kind of artist, just being in musical theater, on TV, and make records for people.

Question: Early on in the competition were you going by the name Jose?

Joe Munoz: That’s just like my name, so – but I was going by Joe.

Question: Okay, so you didn’t actually change it.

Joe Munoz: No.

Question: Tell me what you would do differently if you had a chance to do this over again.

Joe Munoz: I don’t think I would do anything different.  I’ve been really comfortable with all the decisions I’ve made and I’m pretty happy with what I did, and I’m pretty proud of myself.

Question: What made you decide to sing You and I Both?  Personally I love the song, so I’m glad you did.

Joe Munoz: Oh, thanks.  I just love the song.  I think it’s a wonderful story to tell and it’s just a beautiful story, and I love the song personally also.  And I really look up to Jason Mraz as a performer, so – it was the perfect song for me.

Question: What influenced or what got you started into your passion for music?  And I guess the follow-up question is, what inspired you to audition for American Idol?

Joe Munoz: I’ve just been passionate about music since I’ve been a little kid.  It’s always something I feel I’ve been good at, and I just love music.  The love that I have for music is what basically drew me into American Idol.

Question: And any influence besides Jason Mraz?

Joe Munoz: I really look up to Michael Buble and Celine Deon as performers and vocalists.

Question: I really liked your performance this week and I was definitely surprised that you were eliminated.  Why do you think that you didn’t end up pulling in enough votes?  Do you think maybe America felt you were safe and just didn’t throw votes your way?

Joe Munoz: Honestly I have no idea.  This is such an unpredictable show.  You really never know what’s going to happen.  So I was just keeping my mind clear and not trying to think much about it, and just did the best I could.

Question: It looked like Tim was completely shocked when he stood next to you last night.  Were you able to share some thoughts with him and any of the other friends you’ve made along the way, before you were leaving?

Joe Munoz: I got to see Tim right before I left the hotel and he’s a really nice guy.  I said goodbye to Todrick also.  Todrick Hall, which – he’s become one of like my best friends in the show.

Question: What about the friendship grew, other than just sharing this unique experience?  What about their personalities meshed with yours?

Joe Munoz: It’s just that everybody is so cool.  I mean, they’re all really good friends and – everybody’s so different, but they’re all really, really nice.

Question: I was wondering if you thought your lack of screen time hurt you at all.

Joe Munoz: I don’t think so, because other people didn’t get screen time at all and then they got through.  I just think – I don’t know, I try not to think about it that much.  I just did the best I could and I was really proud of what I did.  And even though the outcome wasn’t the best for me, I have faith that things will get better after this.

Question: When you were standing up there with Tim, did you have any idea that it was going to be you?  Were you surprised, or were you expecting it?  What were you thinking?

Joe Munoz: A lot of things were going through my mind, honestly, but I was just trying to keep calm and – it’s so unpredictable, you don’t really know who’s going to go home, so I didn’t want to get over confident.  But that’s basically what happened last night.

Question: Before you found out you were going home, Ryan asked Kara to weigh in on who she thought was going to go home.  What was that like, haven’t to wait and see if she was going to pick one of you that should stay or should go?  What were you thinking then?

Joe Munoz: That was kind of nerve-wracking, actually.

Question: What were you thinking when she had to choose?

Joe Munoz: I wasn’t really – I was blocking myself from even listening because I didn’t want to get more nervous than I already was.  So I tried to keep calm.

Question: I guess I’m kind of just wondering, prior to going up onstage in front of the judges and performing the other night, did you have any like good-luck rituals or anything like that that you would do, just to kind of get yourself pumped up for the performance?

Joe Munoz: The funny thing is that before I like go onstage, I start jumping like while I’m singing.  Like I try to like warm up while I’m jumping, just to shake off the nerves, so that won’t –

Question: Get all the energy out?

Joe Munoz: Yes.

Question: Joe, do you have any closing remarks?

Joe Munoz: I just wanted to tell everybody that I will keep on trying and that you will definitely hear more about me in the future.
