Chidi Uzomah Jr., the 25-year old Los Angeles man accused of stalking American Idol host Ryan Seacrest, appeared in court on Tuesday for felony stalking charges. Uzomah pleaded no contest to one count of felony stalking. He was sent to prison to undergo 90 days of psychiatric evaluation before being required to return to court on June 14.
In September, Uzomah was arrested for attacking a security guard at a charity event when trying to get close to Ryan Seacrest. Uzomah was sentenced to 15 days in prison and three years of probation after pleading guilty to the assault. The man was also ordered to stay away from the American Idol host, but according to Seacrest, Uzomah came looking for him at the KIIS-FM studios on October 2.
In November Ryan Seacrest filed a restraining order against Uzomah, stating ”His aggressive and violent efforts to come into physical contact with me are extremely frightening to me. They have jeopardized not only my personal safety, but also the safety and well-being of those around me.”
Uzomah’s most recent charges stem from a visit to the E! headquarters on November 30, 2009. The man allegedly showed up and tried to gain access to Ryan Seacrest. He was later arrested and found to be armed with a pocket knife. According to LAPD Detective Smith, the American Idol star told her that he was “very intimidated by Mr. Uzomah’s presence, by his size” after being informed that the man was waiting at the E! building to see him.
Because of Uzomah’s no-contest plea, prosecutors will drop two misdemeanor counts of disobeying a court order.
