American Idol: How Mezhgan Hussainy Won Simon Cowell’s Heart

American Idol judge Simon Cowell has long been outspoken about his feelings against marriage, but the acerbic Brit seems to have had a change of heart recently, due largely in part to fiancee, Mezhgan Hussainy. The American Idol makeup artist and judge were friends for seven years before they began dating last year. In recent months, American Idol fans have seen a new, softer side to Simon Cowell, the show’s usually critical and rude judge. Why the change of heart? He’s a man in love! Despite being opposed to marriage in the past, American Idol judge Simon Cowell recently proposed to girlfriend of one year, American Idol makeup artist, Mezhgan Hussainy and friends couldn’t be more thrilled.
Simon Cowell‘s close friend, recording artist Sinitta, speaks out about the happy couple’s relationship. “I met her quite a few years ago when she was first his makeup artist on American Idol. He was with [former girlfriend] Terri Seymour then. Mezhgan has been quietly waiting. And he’s suddenly woken up and realized she’s the person he wants to spend the rest of his life with. She’s fun, very easy to be with. I’m not surprised they got together,” Sinitta tells Life & Style.
Former American Idol contestant, season two’s Kimberly Caldwell agrees. “She’s just down-to-earth, a cool chick. She and Simon started out as friends and have a strong comfort level with each other,†she says. Another close pal of Simon Cowell, America’s Got Talent‘s Piers Morgan, shares the sentiment. “She’s very grounded and has clearly made him very happy,†Morgan says. “Simon was always going to fall for a makeup artist — that way he has someone permanently around to make him look perfect.â€
