SheKnows.com recently sat down and chatted with Jillian Harris about her life after The Bachelorette and her upcoming appearance on tonight’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. If you want to know what Jillian Harris is up to these days, click the link below and keep reading!
SheKnows: What do you think is the secret to reality TV’s success?
Jillian Harris: I think people just love watching regular people on TV. I think they connect with them. It’s crazy because on my season I had great ratings and Jake’s season had even better ratings, although mine was on in the summer which is traditionally lower, but they were very good. It’s fun. It’s human nature watching people fall in love and mad and get jealous and get upset. It’s unfortunate that it becomes so dramatic (laughs). It can be really fun and entertaining if we all just loosen up a little bit (laughs).
SheKnows: Well put…
Jillian Harris: (laughs)
SheKnows: Now, for you was the Reality TV experience an enjoyable one or did it take some getting used to, perhaps?
Jillian Harris: Especially because Ed and I have never wanted to be performers or be on television. We still don’t intend to. There have been some great opportunities that we are looking into. But we both consider ourselves – I’m an interior designer and he’s in software in technology. It is definitely hard to get used to, but I will say that now, looking back, my experience was a good one. But, it didn’t come without a lot of challenges. I struggled with being in the public eye. I struggled with how no matter how many people love me, there’s always going to be people who didn’t. That was always really hard. I’m a people pleaser. I still struggle with it. Ed just think it’s funny (laughs).
SheKnows: Appearing on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is an opportunity to, not only utilize your design talents, but also to give back. Has that aspect inspired you?
Jillian Harris: There’s so much drama out there right now. I realized I want to give back and smile and use my talents to do great things. I came home with a massive burst of energy. I’ve been working on charities, and exercising I’m in a better mood. It really brought the old Jill back — the Jill that is always in a positive mood. I’m a glass half-full kind of girl. It’s safe to say it was one of the best experiences of my life.
SheKnows: Before you entered the The Bachelor, Bachelorette world you…
Jillian Harris: For a regular person to go through what all of us in the Bachelor and The Bachelorette franchise have gone through, it’s hard. But, at the same time it has opened up doors for all of us that are just unbelievable. If we can take those opportunities and continue to give back and inspire other people, and to be positive role models for society, I think it’s a beautiful thing.
SheKnows: How is Ed doing?
Jillian Harris: He’s good. He’s downstairs, just working. He’s a little workhorse. We are doing excellent. There was a time when all that tabloid stuff was coming out – we both thought how are we ever going to make it through this? Starting a relationship out with that much drama and attention is not healthy. Every day that goes by, we fall more and more in love. We become more and more attached with each other and more open. We really truly are each other’s best friends.
