Everyone has been speculating on what’s up next for formerÂ American Idol judgeÂ Paula Abdul, who left theÂ FOX singing competition after nine seasons. Abdul herself hinted about a return to TV but has remained vague on the details. In February, she said, “Oh, I’m gonna be going back to my roots and doing a TV show that has something to do with my roots.Â I’m going back to doing some teaching on television in that kind of capacity.” Naturally everyone assumed that new TV show wasÂ Simon Cowell‘s new reality competition,Â The X Factor, slated to premiere in the fall of 2011, but it looks like Abdul has been working on something different.
According to Entertainment Weekly,Â Paula Abdul is finalizing a deal with ABC to star in the reboot of Star Search, the original reality talent competition. No word yet on exactly what theÂ formerÂ American Idol judge’s specific job would be, but there’s talk of her performing dual roles as host and judge. Allegedly, ABC has been strike a deal withÂ Paula Abdul since she leftÂ American Idol last summer and they may have finally found the ideal job. Star Search is slated to hit the airwaves this summer, but there’s no word on whether or not the new deal would preventÂ Paula Abdul from joiningÂ The X Factor withÂ Simon Cowell next fall.
Star Search, which was originally hosted by Ed McMahon from 1983 until 1995, produced major stars like Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, and Beyonce.
