Tonight on FOX, the results are in for the Top Twelve on American Idol 9, and one hopeful will be sent home! Host Ryan Seacrest will tell us who that is, and judges Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, Ellen Degeneres, and Kara DioGuardi will weigh in! Also tonight, there are performances by past Idol winner David Cook, Ke$ha (with 3OH!3) and Orianthi! Read on for the highlights!
Ryan begins the show by musing that this St. Patrick’s Day the luck o’ the Irish will only be with eleven of the competitors, as one will go home. Simon and Ryan kick off the night with words over Ryan getting in Simon’s face last night – Simon tells him they’re friends, but not to ever do that again. Ryan seems amused, and asks him to explain the judges save rule, which begins this week. It means if someone is voted off that the judges unanimously want to keep – they can do it, but only once.
David Cook opens the performance segment of the show with a rousing, edgy rendition of The Rolling Stones’ Jumpin’ Jack Flash! Ryan shakes his hand afterward, and David comments how great it is not to have to worry about being voted on! They discuss the fact that David has a new album coming out, and also that he will be traveling to Africa for Idol Gives Back.
The Top Twelve appear in a Ford video singing Tick, Tick, Tick, Boom! They are driving around in Ford cars and throwing paint balls in the video – fun! They also get to custom design a Ford Fiesta.
Paige Miles is the first contestant asked to stand up by Ryan tonight. He tells her she is in the bottom three and sends her across the stage to take a stool. Lee Dewyze is in the spotlight next – he will get another chance to have a ‘moment’ – he’s safe! Siobhan Magnus draws loud applause as she is asked to stand. Ellen reiterates how unique Siobhan is – Ryan says she’s safe. Aaron Kelly is the next to learn his fate – he’s told to sit back down – he’s through!
Andrew Garcia and Tim Urban are both made to stand up together. Kara is asked if she would be comfortable seeing either of them in the bottom three – she says based on the performances last night – yes. Andrew is told to sit down – Tim joins Paige on a stool in the bottom three.
Orianthi, a blonde female performer from Australia, is introduced to the stage next. She sings her hit According To You. Ryan chats with her after about how she played with Carrie Underwood at one time.
Continuing with results, Didi Benami is asked to stand up, and then told to sit back down – she’s safe. Crystal Bowersox is also told that she will go on. Katie Stevens is centered out by Ryan next, and is warned by Kara about her pitch – the judges all disagree on what type of music she should be choosing, but the important thing is she’s safe!
Michael Lynche has the heat on him now, but he is told the last stool is not for him – he’s through! Casey James and Lacey Brown are the last two to be asked to stand. Casey is safe, and Lacey must take the third stool – she is in the bottom three.
Ryan asks the judges if any of the bottom three would be worth using the save for – Simon says there is one. Ryan decides to put one of the three out of their misery and send them back to the group – it’s Tim! Either Lacey or Paige is going to be leaving.
Before we find out which girl is going, breakout star Ke$ha performs! She sings her tune Blah, Blah, Blah!
Back to the results, it’s time for Paige and Lacey to learn their fate. The contestant in danger of leaving is Lacey Brown – she must sing for the save. As she performs, the judges confer. After, Ryan asks if they will use the save tonight. Simon says it was unanimous, and unfortunately, the answer is no.
