Gordon Ramsay heads to Mama Rita’s Mexican Restaurant in Southern California tonight on Kitchen Nightmares on FOX. With a head chef who has no ambition and cannot stay away from the microwave, and an owner who cannot distinguish the difference between a restaurant and a catering company, will Chef Ramsay be able to turn around this 4 month old restaurant before it’s too late? Tonight on Kitchen Nightmares on FOX, Gordon Ramsay ends up at Mama Rita’s restaurant where he meets the owner, Laura, whose only prior experience is running a catering company. After being told by customers that her grandmother’s recipes were so good that she needed to open a restaurant, she did. Unfortunately, the restaurant is not doing as well as catering for her and Gordon is determined to find out why and turn it around.
As he walks in Mama Rita’s restaurant on Kitchen Nightmares on FOX, Gordon Ramsay quickly realizes that is it surely not the decor as this is one restaurant that is so beautiful he would not to do any work to the restaurant itself. However, after ordering a few dishes off the menu he now knows the problem: the food. He is served dry, dry and more dry Mexican dishes. When the head chef is questioned, she agrees that they are dry, but takes no responsibility, instead she just stands there and says nothing.
After a quick visit to the kitchen, Gordon Ramsay discovers two reasons for the dry foods: a head chef who microwaves everything and months old frozen foods….Ick, no wonder they can’t keep any customers! Upon inspecting the freezer, Gordon Ramsay discovers frozen foods many months, even years old, and he starts trashing everything in there. Gordon lets Laura and her head chef know that they will be starting fresh. Laura cannot seem to take any responsibility as she continues to place the blame on how she handled her catering business. When he brings in some fresh ingredients, Laura is shocked that her head chef cannot come up with a tasty new dish for the menu, instead she makes a chicken breast with salt and garlic powder only.
With dinner service being a complete disaster with food coming back at every corner, Gordon Ramsay decides to rally some locals to come and let Laura know why they will not eat at Mama Rita’s restaurant again. After learning that many people have gotten sick from her food and how bland her food really is, Laura realizes she needs to make changes on Kitchen Nightmares on FOX. Gordon Ramsay wants to start with her lazy head chef, but Laura who is close friends with her, cannot just get rid of her. With this in mind, Gordon Ramsay brings in a chef of his to mentor this kitchen staff in hopes of helping everyone.
After a new menu creation, on relaunch night on Kitchen Nightmares on FOX, Laura’s head chef at Mama Rita’s restaurant can’t handle the pressure, and takes no leadership in the kitchen as her dishes continue to come back undercooked. Unfortunately, even Gordon Ramsay‘s mentor chef cannot get through to this head chef who seems to work in catering mode all the time and cannot stay away from the microwave. Gordon Ramsay has a serious chat with Laura, who promises him that the next time he visits, her staff will have changed. Gordon leaves his mentor chef there to continue working on this staff. When he returns, he is pleasantly surprised to see that Laura has hired a new head chef and the restaurant is booming!
