Alex Lambert was thisclose to making it into American Idol‘s Top 12 this year, but sadly he didn’t make the cut. The adorable crooner sat down with Ellen DeGeneres to discuss his previous singing experience, why he auditioned for Idol in the first place, and how shocked he was to make it so far…
Viewers of American Idol were shocked to see fan favorite Alex Lambert cut from the competition during the semi-finals round. Even though America thought he’d go far in the FOX singing competition, Lambert had his doubts. He recently told American Idol judge Ellen DeGeneres, ”I didn’t think I was going to do that good at all. I have the worst stage fright ever.”
Not only does Alex Lambert deal with stage fright, he really doesn’t have much experience in front of crowds. Prior to his stint on American Idol, he’d only performed live twice and both performances were in front of small crowds in a coffee shop. ”The biggest one was probably, like, 25 people. And I only played two shows, and the other one was, like, 15 people. And they probably weren’t even listening. They were probably just, like, getting coffee,” he said.
Alex Lambert also opened up to Ellen DeGeneres about why he decided to audition for American Idol in the first place. It turns out his mom forced him to! “She’s been trying to make me audition since I was 16, and this year, she told me that if I didn’t go audition, she was going to take my phone away, so I had to go audition. I need my cellphone,” Lambert said. Apparently, mom knows best!
