So You Think You Can Dance is returning for a seventh season this summer and according to executive producer, Nigel Lythgoe, there are some huge changes in store for viewers. On March 14th, Lythgoe took to Twitter to share the news with fans, tweeting, “Shocking changes to SYTYCD this Season. Shocking but GREAT. I hope I will be able to reveal them soon. I need all the pieces in place first.” When asked what he meant by the tweet, he coyly said, ”[There will be] shocking, shocking, shocking format changes. I can’t say anything just yet, not until all my ducks are in a row, but it’s going to be huge. I will tweet when we’re going to release the news.”
According to the So You Think You Can Dance producer and judge, the changes have nothing to do with choreographer, Mary Murphy, who is rumored to be leaving the judging panel. ”I wasn’t talking about that, but she did miss a bunch. You know, I’d like to see Mary choreographing this season. But her absence gave me the opportunity to use more people as judges, to move around more,” he said.
The So You Think You Can Dance changes also have nothing to do with American Idol judge Paula Abdul, who Lythgoe unsuccessfully tried to recruit to the show. “I spent an entire season wooing her and if she was ever going to do it, she would have. The timing was perfect for her,” Lythgoe says. “I  was rather shocked she didn’t pick up and join us at any point. And as an dancer/performer/choreographer, I would have thought she’d like to support us.”
Fans of So You Think You Can Dance will just have to wait patiently until the shocking new changes are revealed. Here’s hoping the announcement comes soon!
