American Idol: Simon Cowell To Receive International Emmy Award

March 27, 2010 11:40 AM by Nancy Floyd

This is shaping up to be a good year indeed for American Idol judge Simon Cowell! He’s finishing up his final season on American Idol (before launching his own show, X Factor), recently got engaged to girlfriend Mezhgan Hussainy, and now he’s being given a very prestigious award. Keep reading for more details on Simon Cowell‘s International Emmy Award…

The International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences is paying a major honor to American Idol judge Simon Cowell by presenting him with an International Emmy award. The prestigious award is being bestowed on Simon Cowell for having “reshaped 21st century and television around the world.” They’re referring, of course, not only to Cowell’s on-camera work on shows like American Idol, but also his behind-the-scenes work as well. Cowell owns a music publishing house called Syco that developed America’s Got Talent (as well as it’s versions in Britain and Europe) and signed musical artists, Il Divo and Susan Boyle.

Bruce Paisner, president of the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences says, “Simon Cowell is an entrepreneur and performer in equal measure. He has built an international empire and in so doing has changed the face of television around the world.” Cowell will have to wait a little while to actually receive the award, though. The International Emmy won’t be presented to the American Idol judge until November 22 at a gala in New York City.

“I’m delighted,” Cowell said in a statement. “I’ve been very lucky to be able to make shows that I love.”
