Teen sensation Miley Cyrus was the celebrity mentor this past week on American Idol, working with the Top 11 contestants as they prepared to sing Billboard chart-topping hits. Miley Cyrus, who is the youngest American Idol mentor to date, sat down with Jay Leno to discuss her experience on the show. “It was interesting,” she says, adding ” I could never be one of the contestants. It just seems mad scary!” As for being a mentor though, Cyrus says, “I loved it!”
When asked about her favorites in the Top 11, Cyrus had two: Siobhan Magnus and Casey James. “Siobhan is my favorite because, not only her range, but she’s got something so sweet about her. And also Casey who kinda reminds me of Keith Urban,” she says.
Leno also asked Cyrus about her thoughts on American Idol judge Simon Cowell. “He scares me a little,” Cyrus joked before adding, “but he’s the nicest guy. But I just wouldn’t want to be going in to an audition for him.” Although Cyrus thought Cowell was wrong about a few of his critiques, she understands where he’s coming from. “I think he’s just brutally honest because he does genuinely want people to succeed,” she says.
Lastly, Cyrus had a chance to weigh in on who her dream mentor would be. “Dolly Parton is my godmother. She would be the best mentor, I think, of anyone else. She’s good and I’d want her clothes too. She’s got it all going on. I love it! That’s who I would want to dress me, I’d want a makeover, I would want her to teach me how to sing better. I think she has one of the best voices there is,” Cyrus says.
