So You Think You Can Dance kicks off season 7 on FOX on May 27th with a two-hour premiere. After the rigorous audition process, viewers are in store for something new and fresh on the upcoming season. There will be less competitors and the return of fan favorites from previous seasons.
FOX has announced that the new season of So You Think You Can Dance will only feature 10 contestants in lieu of the usual 20. Because of this, only one dancer will be eliminated each week after the routines. The So You Think You Can Dance judges have their work cut out for them to narrow down the field to the top 5 female and top 5 male dancers.
Because of the new format, the top 10 competitors won’t be partnered with each other. Instead, they’ll be partnered with So You Think You Can Dance All-Star partners each week. The All-Star dancers are comprised of previous So You Think You Can Dance competitors from the past six seasons. Every week, the competitors will be paired with an All-Star dancer who is skilled in a particular style of dance.
The show, which is hosted by Cat Deely, is a reality competition in search of America’s Favorite Dancer. The winner of the show takes home a grand prize of $250,000 in addition to the title.
