Surprisingly, Kate Gosselin’s drama-filled antics weren’t enough to get her booted from the first week of ABC‘s Dancing With the Stars. Instead, former 90210 star, Shannen Doherty was the first celebrity to get eliminated from the competition. Doherty, who agreed to do the show at the urging of her father, talks about being eliminated, making her dad proud, and what she learned…

To the surprise of many, Shannen Doherty was the first celebrity to be eliminated from season 10 of ABC‘s Dancing With the Stars. After being in the bottom two with bombshell, Pamela Anderson, Doherty was told she’d be the first star sent packing. Fans may have been shocked, but the 90210 star certainly wasn’t.  “I’m not a dancer,” she said after the show. “Mark [Ballas] is surprised, but I’m not.”

Since the season 10 cast was announced, Shannen Doherty has been outspoken about her reason for finally agreeing to be a part of ABC‘s Dancing With the Stars after years of turning the producers down. Her father, who suffered a stroke in December, encouraged her to do it and she just couldn’t say no. Now, despite being the first star eliminated, she says she’s glad she agreed to be a part of the dancing competition. “I did what I set out to do,” she says. “I made my dad proud, that’s all that really matters.”

In addition to making her dad proud, Doherty says she learned some valuable lessons in her weeks on ABC‘s Dancing With the Stars. “What I took away from [the show] is that perseverance and hard work do pay off. It pays off in seeing my father’s face and the joy that I brought him, and I got so close to my partner,” she added. Her partner, dance pro Mark Ballas, was so committed to Doherty that he was willing to dance through a severe injury. On Tuesday, he learned that the muscle in his knee was detached from the bone, but he says, “I would’ve been out there.” Instead, he’ll take the next three to six weeks to heal before returning to the dance floor. “I need to rest and get back to where I need to be. I’m just glad there’s no tear,” Ballas says.
