After undergoing emergency appendectomy surgery, Bret Michaels, a competitor on NBC‘s Celebrity Apprentice, has been released from the hospital but is now recovering in a diabetic facility. The diabetic star, who was rushed to a Texas hospital last Sunday after suffering from severe stomach pains, had to have his appendix removed and is now resting and trying to regain his strength. Keep reading for more details on Michaels’ recovery and how this will affect his tour…
Bret Michaels was preparing to take the stage last Sunday night for a concert in his Roses and Thorns tour when the NBC‘s Celebrity Apprentice star experienced severe stomach pains that landed him in the hospital. After having emergency appendectomy surgery, the star was released from the hospital on Wednesday and checked in to a diabetic facility shortly after.
Fans needn’t worry that the new facility is indicative of any major problem. ”While the surgery went well and doctors are optimistic that the rocker will make a full recovery, the fact that he was exhausted due to his rigorous schedule prior to the surgery and coupled with the fact that he has diabetes, the surgery has taken its toll,” his rep said. ”Even for non-diabetic patients the recovery from surgery can be long and painful. Doctors were amazed at how good of health Bret was in being a 47-year-old diabetic. However the main focus and concern right now is that he is able to rest, recover and maintain good blood sugar levels while doing so.”
Michaels, currently a competitor on NBC‘s Celebrity Apprentice, has been in the midst of a 200-city Roses and Thorns tour. There’s still no word on how the surgery and recovery will impact the remaining tour dates. ”It is unclear at this time exactly how many of Michaels tour dates will have to be moved,” his rep says. “However it has been noted that the singers dates through April 24th are currently being rescheduled and new dates should be posted to his Web site soon.”
