It’s a “hair-raising” episode of America’s Next Top Model when the seven remaining models must strut their stuff in outfits made of real human hair! The ladies also learn some runway tips from New York City’s finest drag queens and get a surprise visit from fashion designer, Whitney Port, star of MTV‘s The City. After tonight’s episode, the six girls still in the competition will be traveling to a fabulous, exotic destination. Keep reading for more details on where they’re heading next…
Tonight’s episode of America’s Next Top Model begins with the seven remaining models returning to the loft after the elimination. Angelea has a lot to boast about: she won the best photo at the shoot and her arch-nemesis, Brenda has been sent home. Raina, on the other hand, is saddened that her friend has been eliminated while Alexandra mopes around, wondering why she hasn’t won anything in the competition yet.
The next morning at the loft, the models are thrilled to get a visit from a surprise guest: Whitney Port from MTV‘s The City. The ladies are even more excited when they learn they’re going out and will get to wear clothes from Port’s fashion line, Whitney Eve. While the girls get beautified by a glam squad, Tyra Banks‘ former agent, Pat Cleveland, gives the girls nonsensical advice about their looks. Stuff like “bring through the essence of you” and “royalty is part of what you are” and “be like a bird ready to take off.” After this quick snippet with Pat Cleveland, I vote her the mayor of Crazytown. And I’m not the least bit surprised that Tyra is her protege. These ladies should join forces and write a guide helping normal folks learn how to translate crazy talk.
When the ladies are dolled up, they load into the SUV limo and head to a drag club. “Paulina the Princess of Power” welcomes the ladies and introduces the drag version of Tyra Banks, who coincidentally looks scarily close to the real Tyra Banks. Plus, he/she’s a better actor. Next it’s time for the drag version of Miss Jay to take the stage. Oh wait, that’s just the regular Miss Jay. It’s easy to get those two confused. He notifies the America’s Next Top Model contestants that they’ll be the entertainment for tonight in a personality runway challenge.
Walking the runway and having a personality? That might be a little much to ask, Miss Jay. Alasia harnesses her inner diva, Jessica channels her inner Princess Di, while Alexandra stomps down the runway clumsily. Krista’s rotating mannequin pose wins wild cheers from the crowd, while Anslee just looks pissed off. When it’s time for the audience to vote with their applause, Anslee doesn’t get a single handclap and Krista wins the challenge. Her prize? New clothes from Whitney Port’s collection.
Back at the loft, it’s time for some Tyra mail that reads: “2morrow could be a hairy situation, don’t get tangled.” The next morning, it’s time to leave for the photo shoot, but Alasia’s running late. After a few warnings, the ladies leave without her. The elevator isn’t working so she has to take the stairs, fretting over how she’s going to make it to the photo shoot and whether her tardiness will cause her to be eliminated. In the ultimate anticlimactic moment, the other six aspiring models are still waiting in front of the building for Alasia and she hops in the limo and arrives at the shoot on time.
Jay Manuel is waiting for the models with details about their hair-raising photo shoot. The girls will be splitting into two teams and posing in outfits made completely out of real human hair. Eww. Hairstylists Weaven Steven and Derek J will be team leaders for the shoot. Derek J chooses Alasia, Jessica, and Alexandra leaving Anslee, Krista, Angelea, and Raina with Weaven Steven. During the shoot, Jessica has a hard time focusing with the other team booing her every move. Angelea struggles at first but ultimately finds her way after Jay steps in with some instruction. Krista impresses Jay with her energy and versatility, but Anslee and Alasia fall flat. Alexandra’s insecurities get the best of her, causing her to look awkward, uncomfortable, and lost.
The seven remaining girls hoping to be America’s Next Top Model appear in front of Tyra Banks, Nigel Barker, Andre Leon Talley, and special guest judge, Whitney Port. It should be noted that Tyra is wearing another jumpsuit. This one’s chocolate brown and skin tight. Why am I even surprised? Sadly, the Tyra train wreck doesn’t end there.
Ladies and gentlemen, it’s now time for a cheesy skit starring the terrible actors otherwise known as the America’s Next Top Model judging panel. The four judges fake yawn and look from side to side as they discuss how exhausted they are. What should they do? I know! Pull out pillows. To take a nap. During elimination. Hmm, that seems fishy. Do the ANTM judges always keep spare pillows under the judging table? Oh, look there’s a sexy male model with a New Zealand accent. Maybe he can help. He surely can! He tells Tyra that a great way to catch some ZZZ’s is by counting sheep. Sounds like a plan, hunky male model man. Enter the sheep on leashes. Seriously, someone begins walking sheep up and down the runway as the models ooh and ahh. Suddenly, giant clouds with Z’s in them lower over the judging panel and a fake fog fills the room. All of the judges reach up to the clouds and “catch Z’s” except Tyra. She finally catches a HUGE Z that reveals a sign that says New Zealand, the destination that the top six contenders will be traveling to after tonight’s elimination. Wow. All of that just to tell them they’re traveling to New Zealand? “Catching Z’s” was the best idea that ANTM masterminds could come up with for the big reveal? I would’ve preferred to see the Flight of the Conchords show up and sing a song about looking fierce and smiling with your eyes.
Now that the horribly acted portion of the night is over, it’s time to see how the ladies did in their photo shoot. Jessica wins praise for her photo, as does Krista. Anslee’s face is strong, but her body pose is weak. Alasia’s photo is great, but Tyra doesn’t think she took enough risks during her shoot. Not surprisingly, Alexandra’s photo is weak and awkward. Angelea’s photo is risky and powerful, and Raina’s pic looks high fashion. After the judges deliberate, it’s time to reveal which six girls will be heading to New Zealand.
Tyra Banks reveals that the winner of tonight’s photo shoot (and recipient of a first class ticket to New Zealand) is Krista. Angelea comes in second. Raina, Jessica, and Alasia are also safe. That means Anslee and Alexandra are in the bottom two. Anslee looks good in close-ups, but falls short in HTT (that’s model code for Head-to-Toe). Alexandra on the other hand seems to lack the drive to stay in the competition. The judges give Alexandra another chance, hoping that she’ll find her passion for the competition. After Anslee leaves the runway, Tyra gives Krista the chance to choose a friend to join her in first class for the flight to New Zealand. Not surprisingly, she chooses her BFF, Angelea, while Anslee goes home to cry to the cameras about being eliminated and seeing her daughter.
Tune in to America’s Next Top Model next Wednesday when the six remaining models travel to New Zealand, try to find their way to go-sees, and pose with livestock!
