Amazing Race: Final Four Head To Shanghai

It’s down to the final four on an all-new episode of The Amazing Race on CBS! Tonight, the four remaining teams travel to Shanghai, China and compete in challenges involving noodle making, fashion finds, and giant puzzle pieces. Models, cowboys, brothers, or detectives…which teams will make the top three on this season of The Amazing Race? Keep reading for all the details on tonight’s leg of the race…
Tonight’s episode of CBS‘ The Amazing Race begins in Singapore, but the four remaining teams won’t be staying long. They must fly over 2,300 miles to Shanghai, China and travel by taxi to the nearby village of Zhujiajiao. Dan & Jordan are the first team to depart, but their lead doesn’t last long since all four teams will be on the same flight. While waiting for their flight, the teams gather together at an airport McDonald’s to hear all the gory details of Brent & Caite‘s decision to U-turn Carol & Brandy during the last leg of the race. Not surprisingly, Caite’s thrilled to be the last female standing in The Amazing Race and even more delighted that her catty plan to oust the lesbian couple actually worked.
Dan & Jordan think Brent & Caite made a poor decision choosing to allow personal issues to motivate their decision to U-turn Carol & Brandy. They think it would’ve been smarter to U-turn a stronger team like cowboys Jet & Cord. The four teams board the flight and head to Shanghai, arriving shortly after 6am. Jet & Cord are the first team to catch a taxi and depart for Zhujiajiao, but Brent & Caite are the first to arrive and find the boat to lead them to the clue. Brothers Dan & Jordan and Detectives Louie & Michael get lost on the way when their cab drivers mistakenly try to follow one another, despite the fact that neither has a clue where Zhujiajiao is located.
Brent & Caite are the first to retrieve the clue with details about tonight’s Roadblock. The teams must observe the local noodle maker to learn how to make Chinese noodles by hand before delivering the noodles to the world’s shortest man. Seriously. Naturally everyone has thoughts about the littlest man in the world upon meeting him. Caite called him adorable and freaking awesome, while Jet & Cord feared that if he jumped out of a trash can at them, they’d be scared to death. Jumped out of a trash can?! Really, guys?? I’m sure that’s offensive on multiple levels.
While the models and the cowboys get started on the Roadblock, the brothers and detectives are still stuck in the back of their cabs trying to find the village of Zhujiajiao. Fortunately, they find an English-speaking woman who gives their cab driver the proper directions. At the Roadblock, Brent, being the wonderfully supportive and encouraging boyfriend that he is, screams at Caite from the sidelines and dishes to the camera about what a terrible job she’s doing. She responds to his “encouragement” by telling him to shut up. Ahh, these two are the poster children for a healthy, mature, loving relationship. Jet, on the other hand, is a natural when it comes to noodle making. Louie & Michael and Dan & Jordan finally arrive and get to work making noodles just minutes before Jet finishes the task and departs for Shanghai’s fashion district for the next clue.
The teams must go to a fashion house, choose a model, and piece together an outfit according to a specific sketch. This proves mighty difficult for Jet & Cord who struggle with impossible fashion dilemmas like telling the difference between gray and black. Caite finally finishes her noodles, but Louie & Jordan are still struggling. Jordan’s about to have a good ol’ fashioned hissy fit as his noodles keep sticking together. Louie finally finishes, leaving Dan & Jordan in last place. Jordan’s frustration leads him to tears, but the brothers have a sweet moment when Dan encourages Jordan and tells him how much he loves him. If this team doesn’t win, I might vow never to watch The Amazing Race again.
Jet & Cord are still the only team at the fashion house, piecing together an outfit, but getting it wrong the first time. Second time’s a charm for the cowboys who finish the task before any other team arrives. After completing the challenge, they’re off to Hongkou football stadium for the next clue. Brent & Caite arrive at the fashion house and get to work. Despite working as models, Brent & Caite falter a bit in the challenge and liken it to the fact that when they’re working, someone else is responsible for piecing together their outfits. Spoken like the true snobs they are. Detectives Louie & Michael arrive, but can’t find the fashion house. Meanwhile, Jet & Cord arrive to the stadium and find the details of a second Roadblock. That’s right, another Roadblock. For the first time in Amazing Race history, the teams will have to complete two Roadblocks in one episode. The added twist is that whichever team member sat out during the first Roadblock must compete in the second one. And it’s not an easy one!
Using a small picture as a reference, teams must assemble a giant puzzle that’s been cut into 96 cards. They must then distribute the puzzle pieces, in order, to a crowd of fans in the stadium stands who will then flip over the pieces. If the puzzle has been put together properly, the back side of the cards will reveal a message with a specific seat number where teams will find their next clue. Confused yet?
Since the cowboys are the first to arrive at the second Roadblock, Cord must work quickly to maintain their lead. Given that the puzzle pieces all look alike and the wind is fiercely blowing, I’m guessing this isn’t going to be a quick or easy task to finish. Meanwhile, Brent & Caite complete the fashion challenge before the detectives even arrive. After wandering around the area forever, they realize the fashion house was the door directly beside the clue box. Excellent detective skills there. Dan & Jordan arrive a few minutes later and get to work. Not surprisingly, Louie & Michael get the outfit wrong on their first try. And the second try. They also ruin Dan & Jordan’s first attempt by accidentally stealing the leggings they need. Fortunately, both teams finish within seconds of each other and head to the football stadium.
Cord is making serious progress on his puzzle by the time Brent arrives. Shortly thereafter, Dan & Jordan and Louie & Michael arrive and start working. Brent & Cord are almost finished piecing together their puzzles when the wind picks up and sends their pieces flying across the field. Cord manages to save most of his pieces by throwing his body on top of the puzzle, but Brent loses almost his entire puzzle forcing him to start from scratch. Naturally this causes a pity party from Brent and an argument with Caite. The four teams gather any items they can find to lay across their puzzle pieces to keep them from blowing away.
Cord is the first person to get his puzzle in order and distribute the pieces to the crowd. He’s correct and his turned-over puzzle pieces reveal the seat where he can find his next clue about the location of tonight’s Pit Stop, the Shanghai Science & Technology Museum. As Jet & Cord race to the Pit Stop, Brent finishes the puzzle and locates his clue quickly. Michael and Dan go head-to-head to finish the puzzle, each using their own technique. Dan tries to piece together the outside edge first, while Michael spends his time searching for each specific piece, one at a time. While Dan & Michael work on their puzzles, Jet & Cord arrive at the Pit Stop and finish in first place. Brent & Caite arrive a short time later, finishing in second place.
Dan finishes the puzzle and retrieves the clue, while Michael is at a loss trying to put his puzzle together. Dan & Jordan arrive at the Pit Stop in third place. Despite being in last place, Michael’s unwilling to give up though and stays at the stadium until after dark. He finally gets his puzzle together and heads to the Pit Stop with Louie. Even though they are the last team to arrive, it’s not the end of their journey on The Amazing Race. Host Phil Keoghan informs them (after an impressive fake-out) that this is a non-elimination leg of the race. Louie & Michael will have another week to compete, but will be required to complete a speed bump during the next leg of the race.
Tune into The Amazing Race next Sunday night on CBS when the four remaining teams duke it out to make the top three and something in a cab causes Dan & Jordan to experience either an emotional breakdown or an epileptic fit.
