It looks like there’s even more bad news for Bret Michaels, a competitor on NBC‘s Celebrity Apprentice. The rocker, who was admitted into ICU over the weekend for a brain hemorrhage, was diagnosed with hyponatremia, a side effect that causes seizures. Keep reading for more details on Michaels’ current condition…
Bret Michaels remains in intensive care in an unknown hospital as doctors scramble to find the source of a massive subarachnoid hemorrhage in his brain. The Celebrity Apprentice star is still in critical condition, but doctors say he is conscious and stable. He has, however, been diagnosed with yet another ailment: hyponatremia, a side effect that causes seizures.
“Michaels remains under 24-hour observation in the ICU and is in positive spirits. He is responding well to tests and treatments,” his rep says in a statement. “Even though today was a minor setback, doctors remain hopeful for a full recovery.” Hyponatremia is a lack of sodium in the body that produces seizures in patients. Michaels’ rep didn’t say whether or not the Celebrity Apprentice competitor has suffered any seizures at this time.
“Coupled with the fact that Michaels is a lifelong Type 1 diabetic and has recently undergone emergency appendectomy surgery while on tour in San Antonio, he will remain monitored closely by his medical team to make sure no complications occur from the diabetes,” Michaels’ rep says, adding that doctors are “hopeful that Bret will gradually improve as the blood surrounding the brain dissolves and is reabsorbed into his system, which can be a very painful recovery and take several weeks to months.”
