Tonight, we meet five new chefs on Top Chef Masters on Bravo as they compete for the final two spots in the champions round. Our chefs this week are: Debbie Gold, Jody Adams, Maria Hines, Rick Tramonto and Susur Lee. Rick Tramonto has been a guest judge on Top Chef in the past, but will that give him an unfair advantage? The Modern Family cast members would be the judge of that!
The chefs jump right into the quickfire challenge on Top Chef Masters on Bravo, which is to complete a perfectly styled fruit plate. The winner of the challenge will not only receive $5k for their charity, but they will also win one of the two remaining spots in the champions round. In this quickfire challenge, they would be judged with stars as a regular challenge. Susur was not thrilled that he ended up with the lowest score of 2.5 stars, but it made him determined to win the next challenge. Jody was deemed the winner with her fig and walnut tart, which secured her a spot in the champions round.
For the main challenge and the final spot in the champions round on the line, the chefs on Top Chef Masters on Bravo were asked to create a modernized family meal for the cast & crew of the hit television series, Modern Family. Susur, determined to win, created a curry chicken dish that looked delicious. Maria made a salmon meal, while Debbie went with a modern take on pork chops and applesauce with a squash slaw. Rick made a sausage dish with truffles and white beans while Jody did chicken with mushrooms and gnocchi. The judges and guests seemed to enjoy all the dishes, but Debbie’s had a few harsh remarks on the sweetness of her dish and the fact that her pork was not cooked thoroughly.
At the critic’s table on Top Chef Masters on Bravo, it was judgement time for the chefs. Jody was already safe from her quickfire win, so it was left to the remaining four chefs. Rick’s prior judging had no effect on his performance as he was outscored by Maria and Susur. Susur was given a total of 19.5 stars, the most ever in Top Chef Masters history and gained him a place in the champions round.
