Amazing Race: Final Four in Shanghai (Again)
May 02, 2010 06:04 PM by Nancy Floyd

The final four are duking it out for another week on The Amazing Race on CBS! After Louie & Michael finished in last place on last week’s episode, they were relieved to learn it was a non-elimination leg of the race. It does mean, however, that they’ll have to complete an additional Speed Bump tonight if they want to stay in the competition. Keep reading for more details on drama in Shanghai and which three teams are moving on to the finals…
A brand new episode of The Amazing Race on CBS kicks off tonight in Shanghai. Since Jet & Cord were the first to finish last week, they’re the first to start on tonight’s leg of the race. Their first stop tonight is the Garden Bridge to find their next clue. As they race to find the clue, they give us a little backstory. It turns out that Cord was kicked in the head in 2004 and almost died. That actually explains a lot. They ask for directions to the Garden Bridge but are directed to the Park Bridge instead.
Brent & Caite are the second to depart for the Garden Bridge and Caite takes a moment to talk about her past as the former Miss Teen South Carolina and how she hopes her stint on The Amazing Race will redeem her idiocy in the pageant. Brent & Caite manage to find a pedestrian who gives them the Chinese name for the bridge and sends them in the right direction. Meanwhile, Jet & Cord hop in a cab but their driver gets lost. As Dan & Jordan head out, Dan discusses how he agreed to be on The Amazing Race to help Jordan fulfill his dream of competing on the show. Not surprisingly, they are having trouble finding the bridge.
Brent & Caite are the first to arrive to the bridge and must make their way to the Longhua Temple, but they’re not allowed to travel by taxi. They struggle to read their Chinese maps and catch a bus while Jet & Cord arrive at the clue box moments later. Another unsurprising thing: Caite starts trash-talking about how awesome she is. Dear God, please let this team be eliminated.

Dan & Jordan are beyond frustrated as they spend over two hours trying to find the Garden Bridge and vow to never visit China again. They decide to wait around at the Pit Stop for Louie & Michael to depart and hope that the detectives can help them find the bridge. While they try to locate the bridge (using binoculars), Brent & Caite arrive at the Longhua Temple and find the details for tonight’s Roadblock. One person from each team must count over 500 Buddha statues and report the exact number. If they’re wrong, they must wait ten minutes before starting again.
Caite is the first person to start the statue-counting task and is hoping to prove to the world that she’s actually intelligent. Good luck with that. Her first guess is off by three so she must wait to begin again. Meanwhile, Louie & Michael are using their mad detective skills to find the Garden Bridge. It’s not working out so well for them. Back at the Roadblock, Caite attempts the counting a second time and gets it wrong by one. She’s really doing her part to disprove her stupidity.
Louie & Michael discover a taxi cab translation service that they call in order to direct their cab driver where to go. Dan & Jordan attempt to follow them in a cab of their own, but their driver doesn’t understand their order to “follow.” This causes Dan to have some sort of epileptic seizure as he unsuccessfully attempts to exit the car. Back at the Roadblock, Caite tries to count the statues for a third time and gets it wrong yet again. Jet & Cord finally arrive at the Roadblock but aren’t sure where to go. Jet finally finds the clue and starts counting.
Dan & Jordan and Michael & Louie finally arrive at Garden Bridge and set out for the Longhua Temple. Jet gets the right number of statues on his first try and completes the Roadblock seconds before Caite. After four tries, she finally gets it right. I don’t know about you but I’m certainly convinced she’s a prime Mensa candidate. Now, the teams must choose a motorcycle to chauffeur them to head to Yuyuan Gardens for their next clue. Louie & Michael and Dan & Jordan find the bus and head to Longhua Temple. Meanwhile, Brent & Caite and Jet & Cord search for Yuyuan Gardens in a crowded market. Jet & Cord find it first and must choose between two Detours.

In Pork Chops, they must overturn ornate stamps to find the ones with each team member’s name on it. In Pork Dumplings they must make dumplings and deliver them through crowded market. Jet & Cord choose Pork Chops, as do Brent & Caite. Brent is about to pee on himself but Caite won’t allow him to use the restroom. Louie & Michael arrive at the Temple and find details on their Speed Bump, a task specifically for them that they must compete before moving on. They must perform a local good luck ritual: tossing coins into a giant incense burner. While the detectives work on their coin tossing, Dan starts the statue counting. Louie gets his coin in the burner after only a couple tries but it takes Michael a little longer. Either way, they start the Roadblock just a few minutes after Dan & Jordan.
At the Detour, Brent & Caite are screaming at one another about the bathroom break. Caite refuses to let Brent leave while he continues to whine. She finally gives in but they continue to bicker the entire way. While they’re gone, Jet & Cord discover Brent’s stamp but leave it where it is. Dan manages to count the statues successfully on the first try and they head to the motorcycles to make their way to Yuyuan Gardens. Louie makes a mistake on his statue counting and must wait ten minutes before trying again. He realizes his mistake on the second try and gets it right.

At the Pork Chops challenge, Cord & Brent each find their stamp, although the Cowboys keeps it a secret. Caite & Jet find their stamps at the same time and receive information about the location for the Pit Stop. They race to find cabs and head to meet The Amazing Race‘s host Phil Keoghan. Both teams arrive at the Pit Stop around the same time and race to the finish. Brent & Caite are the first to arrive and win a spot in the finals, as well as a trip for two. Caite thinks her spot in the top three proves to the entire world that she is intelligent. I beg to differ. Jet & Cord arrive in second place.

Back at the Detour, Dan & Jordan finally arrive and opt for the Pork Chops challenge. They get to work, as Louie & Michael arrive twenty minutes later, also opting for the Pork Chops Detour. They race against each other to find the stamps bearing their names. Dan finds his stamp first, as the Detectives keep searching. It’s not long before Jordan finds his stamp as well and they race to the Pit Stop while Michael & Louie keep searching for their stamps. They find Louie’s stamp but struggle to find Michael’s. They find it shortly thereafter and try to race to the Pit Stop before Dan & Jordan.
Dan is having his second emotional breakdown in a cab when his driver gets lost and stuck in traffic. It seems to be neck and neck as the two teams arrive to the Pit Stop location and search for Phil Keoghan. Dan & Jordan are the first to arrive and finish in third place, earning a spot in the finals. Unfortunately that means Louie & Michael have been eliminated.
Tune into The Amazing Race finale next Sunday night on CBS when the top three teams race to win the grand prize of $1 million.
