Randy Jackson felt like it was finally time to fulfill a longtime dream of starting his own record label. The American Idol judge recently announced the launch of DreamMerchant21, a new dance label, and the signing of its first artist. To find a recording artist, Jackson didn’t have to look very far. He signed American Idol season two star, Kimberley Locke.
According to the press release, through the new dance label, Randy Jackson “has plans to serve all facets of the dance community as he sees the genre of dance at the forefront of today’s music trends.†He says, “I feel compelled with the music that I am hearing in 2010 to start this kind of label. I want to make a difference within this genre and bring good energy and great music to all!â€
Among that great music is Locke’s new single, “Strobelight” which was released in April. The former American Idol finalist (she finished in third place in season two) has already had great success with her music career, releasing eight  Top 20 Adult Contemporary hits, three No. 1 Dance hits, and eight No. 1 singles across various Billboard charts in the past several years. Her Christmas album also produced three No. 1 holiday singles. Hew new track for DreamMerchant21 was produced by Tony Moran and Warren Rigg.
“We are proud to know that such a gifted artist whose star is rising higher can share that star with us on the dance floor!” said Moran. ”There is no better way to get intimate with an artist than to hear that artist bare, without music for a moment to carry her message through melody, soul, and effort.”
