Irish contestant, Carly Smithson, may not have won American Idol, but she’s still managed to find success in the music business and fulfill her lifelong dream of being a performer. The rocker is now the lead singer of the band, We Are The Fallen. The band’s new album, Tear the World Down, doesn’t hits stores until Tuesday, May 11th, but fans can listen to their two singles, Bury Me Alive and I am the Only One, online. Smithson is thrilled to have the chance to live her dream, and gives all the credit to American Idol.
“Life since Idol has definitely changed for me,†Smithson, 26, says. “I get to tour around the world and play the record of my dreams to people on a nightly basis. Life is great. I’m living the dream!  Idol is a huge opportunity even if you don’t win but it’s up to the individual to use the platform and not wait for anyone to hold your hand or write your songs. No fate but what we make!”
Smithson is grateful that American Idol gave her the chance to accomplish her goals and make the kind of music she loves. She calls We Are the Fallen’s new album a “soundtrack of some of our recent life experiences,†and describes it as “a wall of guitars, epic choirs and orchestra, beautiful pianos and soaring vocals.â€
Although Smithson isn’t a musician, that hasn’t kept her from pouring her heart into the songs. “I don’t play an instrument so I focus on melody and lyrics,” she says. Just don’t expect her to provide the backstory to any of the tunes. “All of our songs have personal meanings to us but we prefer to allow our listeners to have their own take on them. It’s a more interesting way to listen to a song and connect to the lyrics.â€
