Michelle Duggar, mother of 19 children and the star of 19 Kids And Counting, spent this Mother’s Day in an unusual place: the hospital. The reality TV mom spent Sunday with her youngest daughter, Josie Duggar, who has been hospitalized for months after being born prematurely. Keep reading for more details on the Duggars’ untraditional and special Mother’s Day…
Mother’s Day is certainly a holiday that the Duggar family honors each year. Michelle Duggar, the star of 19 Kids And Counting, is the real-life mom to 19 children! But this year, Michelle chose to spend Mother’s Day with her youngest daughter, 5-month old, Josie Brooklyn Duggar, at the neonatal intensive care unit of Arkansas’ Children’s Hospital. Josie has been in the hospital for months (save for a brief stay at home in April) after being born prematurely in December. The micropremie was delivered at the gestational age of only 25 weeks and has struggled to gain weight and overcome health issues.
“This Mother’s Day is definitely going to be different because we’ll be at the hospital,” Michelle Duggar says. “This is the first time I’ve been in the hospital on Mother’s Day.” Despite having to spend the day in the neonatal intensive care unit, the 19 Kids And Counting star is optimistic about her youngest child’s outlook. ”She reached the 6 lb. mark today. We’re going to have a six pounder party,” Michelle says. ”I was just sitting with another mom and going over all the blessings. It could be a lot worse. Our babies are growing, that is not always the case.”
“This is a very special Mother’s Day even though we are going through a lot of unknowns,” says Jim Bob. Michelle agrees, adding, ”We are going to remember this Mother’s Day like no other. It will be a Mother’s Day I remember forever.”
