American Idol season 2 finalist Clay Aiken is set to release a brand new album on Tuesday, June 1st. The album, titled Tried and True, features Aiken’s unique covers of classic songs from the 1950s and 1960s. Aiken says the tunes selected for the record are songs he grew up listening to and songs that he feels have stood the test of time.
Despite the fact that he didn’t write any of the songs, Clay Aiken feels that an album of this type gives his audience a chance to see him for who he really is. ”To me, older songs are more melodically appealing and beautiful,” the American Idol alum says. “So doing this album was an opportunity to just be myself.”
Aiken’s new album includes covers of Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, What Kind of Fool am I?, Mack the Knife, Unchained Melody, There’s a Kind of Hush, and the Elvis Presley tune, Suspicious Minds. To promote the album, Clay Aiken will spend the summer touring the nation with American Idol season 2 winner Ruben Studdard.
