Dancing With The Stars Alums Speak Out About Lawrence Taylor’s Rape Charges
May 11, 2010 07:00 AM by Nancy Floyd

Fellow cast members from ABC‘s Dancing With the Stars were shocked to hear that former season 8 contestant, NFL hall of famer, Lawrence Taylor has been arrested on third-degree rape charges. Season 8 finalist, Melissa Rycroft, and dance pros, Louis van Amstel and Tony Dovolani speak out about their reactions to Taylor’s arrest. Keep reading for more details…
When retired football star, Lawrence Taylor, formerly a competitor on ABC‘s Dancing With the Stars, was arrested last week on charges of raping a teenage girl, his DWTS co-stars were shocked. Fellow season 8 competitor, Melissa Rycroft, shares her disbelief about Taylor’s involvement with such a heinous crime. ”It’s shocking right now. I danced with him. He was my buddy,” Rycroft says. “It’s not the LT that I knew. The LT that I knew was very sweet and caring and compassionate and he took care of all of us and I never saw a temper. I never saw him mistreating anybody.”
Dancing With the Stars dance pro, Tony Dovolani, agrees with Rycroft, calling Taylor “such a cool guy.” Despite what’s in the news, Dovolani is careful to not make any rash judgments on the situation. ”I don’t know the details, so I can’t make any comments either way. I feel for the both parties because this is not a pleasant situation to be in,” Dovolani says.
Another Dancing With the Stars dance pro feels the same way as Dovolani. Louis van Amstel says, ”I just think that people should not make judgments until they find out what really, really happens. If he had done what he did, If that’s true, then … but if not, come on. Give him a break.”
